Siemens Energy’s Gamesa Gamble: Can the Wind Unit Deliver on a €8 Billion Promise?

Siemens Energy's half-year results hinge on Gamesa reaching breakeven to unlock €8 billion free cash flow. Stock near highs, valuation leaves no room for error.

The countdown to May 12 has begun for Siemens Energy, and the stakes could hardly be higher. The DAX-listed industrial giant is set to release its half-year results, but the numbers on the page will matter less than what they reveal about the fate of its troubled wind turbine subsidiary, Gamesa. The entire upgraded annual forecast — including a stunning jump in free cash flow to €8 billion — hinges on whether Gamesa can finally reach operating breakeven in the second half of the year.

The €8 Billion Question

Siemens Energy’s management has set an ambitious target for fiscal 2026: comparable revenue growth of 14 to 16 percent and an adjusted operating margin of 10 to 12 percent. The headline-grabbing figure, however, is the free cash flow before taxes, which has been raised to roughly €8 billion — nearly double the previous guidance range of €4 to €5 billion. That leap is underpinned by the stellar performance of Grid Technologies, which is expected to post revenue growth of 25 to 27 percent and a margin between 18 and 20 percent. Group order intake has already surged past €17 billion, fueled by a 41 percent jump in infrastructure orders.

But here’s the catch: the management has explicitly tied the confirmed annual outlook to Gamesa achieving breakeven. The wind unit’s operating loss has narrowed sharply from €374 million to €46 million, though one-off items played a role. The first half of the year is still expected to show red ink, with a sharp recovery in offshore wind slated to deliver the turnaround in the second half. If Gamesa misses that target, the entire forecast — and the stock’s recent rally — could unravel.

A Stock Priced for Perfection

The market has already priced in a lot of good news. Siemens Energy shares trade at €186.46, less than one percent below their 52-week high of €188.00, and have gained over 50 percent since the start of the year. The stock has added roughly 24 percent in the past 30 days alone. With a forward price-to-earnings ratio above 50, the valuation leaves little room for error.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?

Analyst sentiment remains broadly constructive. Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Jefferies, and Berenberg all rate the stock a buy. RBC has a €200 price target with an “Outperform” rating, while Deutsche Bank Research recently lifted its target to €195, citing the upgraded full-year guidance as a sign of stronger second-half momentum. The consensus dividend estimate for 2026 stands at around €1.79 per share, up from €0.70 last year.

Ownership Shifts and Order Visibility

Behind the scenes, the shareholder structure continues to evolve. Amundi has trimmed its voting rights stake to 2.98 percent, while Siemens AG — after its multi-billion-euro partial sale — now holds just 5.54 percent of voting rights.

On the operational front, the long-term visibility is exceptional. Gas turbine capacity is fully booked through 2028, and the first orders for 2030 have already been placed. That makes the risk profile unusually binary: the conventional energy business is firing on all cylinders, but the entire investment thesis rests on Gamesa’s ability to execute.

Siemens Energy at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The May 12 Verdict

When Siemens Energy reports its half-year results on May 12, investors will be looking for three things: confirmation that Grid Technologies is still accelerating, evidence that Gamesa’s losses are shrinking faster than expected, and a clear signal that the second-half breakeven target remains achievable. A miss on any of those fronts could trigger a sharp correction. A clean beat, by contrast, could push the stock into uncharted territory.

For now, the market is betting on the wind turning in Gamesa’s favor. The next two weeks will determine whether that bet pays off.
