Investors got a double dose of confidence from Siemens Energy on Monday, as the company accelerated its share repurchase programme to €3bn for fiscal 2026 and unveiled a second-quarter performance that smashed expectations across orders, revenues and profits. The stock initially steadied at €170.50 before charging to €175.56 — a gain of roughly 4% from Friday’s close of €169.18 — as the market digested the strongest operational report in the group’s recent history.

The decision to lift the buyback target from a previously planned €2bn underlines how far the balance sheet has healed since the Gamesa crisis. Total shareholder returns this fiscal year already stand at €2.4bn through dividends and buybacks, and the company has repurchased 11.6 million shares since the start of March. The overall programme remains capped at €6bn, but the accelerated pace sends an unmistakable signal: management is betting the sustained margin recovery will generate the cash to back it up.

That cash generation was the star of the quarter. Siemens Energy booked a record order intake of €17.7bn, while comparable revenue climbed 8.9% to €10.3bn. Operating profit before special items jumped to €1.16bn, lifting the corresponding margin to 11.3%. Net income came in at €835mn, a sharp improvement from the year-earlier period. The figures prompted management to raise guidance for fiscal 2026, now targeting comparable revenue growth of 14% to 16%, a net profit of around €4bn and free cash flow before taxes of roughly €8bn.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?

Yet the rally has already been long and steep. The stock has more than doubled over the past 12 months — up 118% — and year to date it is still ahead by nearly 39%, despite last week’s 4.4% pullback. That rich valuation is giving some profit-takers pause: even stellar numbers no longer guarantee automatic gains. The market is waiting for further evidence that margin improvement is durable, particularly at the wind turbine division Gamesa, where turnaround progress remains in the crosshairs.

Analysts, however, remain broadly constructive. JPMorgan sticks with a €225 price target, Goldman Sachs sees €212, and both Deutsche Bank and Berenberg have €200 in their sights. Jefferies has highlighted improving trends in the grid business and gas turbines as well as tentative recovery at Gamesa. The broader backdrop also supports the story: Germany returned to being a net power exporter in the first quarter of 2026 for the first time in over two years, with renewables accounting for more than half of that surplus. As a supplier of transmission equipment, wind turbines and gas plants, Siemens Energy stands to benefit directly from the European grid overhaul.

Technically, the uptrend remains intact. The shares are trading well above their 50-day moving average of €163.40 and the 200-day line at €129.80. The relative strength index at 60.7 signals no overheating, and chart support in the €165 area provides a solid floor. The next hurdle is the 52-week high of €188 — a level that now looks increasingly within reach, provided the operational momentum continues and Gamesa holds its course.
