Siemens Energy Launches Buyback and Roadshow as Shares Approach Oversold Territory

Siemens Energy is pulling two levers this week to arrest a sharp sell-off that has wiped a fifth off its market value since mid-April. The Munich-based group has activated a €1bn share buyback programme while dispatching its investor relations team on a European roadshow, hoping to convince jittery shareholders that the underlying business remains on a firm footing.

The buyback got under way in the current trading week through an accelerated share purchase programme. In this first phase, the company will repurchase up to 57 million shares for a total of €1bn, with the exercise running through to the autumn. Management has flagged a total buyback capacity of €6bn through fiscal 2027/28, with the bulk of the acquired equity earmarked for employee share schemes or cancellation. Analysts read the move as a clear signal that the balance sheet has stabilised after years of restructuring.

The stock closed Friday at €155.70, down 2.48% on the day and a full 20% below the April high of €195.54. The monthly decline now stands at 16.2%, though the year-to-date performance still shows a respectable 26.8% gain. The relative strength index has fallen to 37.0, putting the shares in technically oversold territory and hinting that the selling pressure may be nearing exhaustion.

Roadshow Targets Three Financial Centres

The roadshow kicks off on 9 June in Zurich, before moving to Munich the same day and then on to Copenhagen and Stockholm. Management is expected to field questions on how the record order backlog — which includes booming demand for grid technology and gas turbines — will translate into operating profits. Recent dealmaking will also be in the spotlight: on 2 June, Siemens Energy announced the acquisition of Camlin Group, a specialist in grid monitoring and digitalisation, a move that bolsters its infrastructure revenue mix with higher-margin, technology-driven earnings.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?

JPMorgan this week reiterated its "overweight" rating and €225 price target, arguing that the global energy transition continues to fill order books, especially in grid equipment and gas turbines. The bank’s confidence stands in sharp contrast to the market’s recent mood. With the shares trading at €155.70, JPMorgan’s target implies upside of roughly 45%.

RBC Capital Markets, in a separate study, pointed out that European capital goods companies with long business cycles are set to benefit from organic revenue growth in 2026. Siemens Energy, sitting on record backlog, is well positioned to capture that tailwind — provided management can convince investors on the roadshow that the backlog will convert into cash profits.

Chart Levels in Focus

Technically, the stock faces a cluster of resistance levels. The 50-day moving average sits at €168.46 and the 100-day average at €160.21 — the latter a psychologically important level that bulls need to reclaim to change the near-term narrative. The 200-day moving average at €135.22 remains the long-term anchor, offering a cushion of roughly 15% from the current price.

Siemens Energy at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Short-term moving averages are currently blocking any upward momentum, but the distance to the 52-week high has widened to around 20%, a gap that could attract bargain hunters if the roadshow and buyback restore confidence. The coming days will reveal whether the combination of a €1bn share repurchase and face-to-face engagement with investors can push the stock back above €160 and put the correction to rest.
