Siemens Energy has set its sights on a free cash flow target of €8 billion for the current fiscal year, more than double the previous ceiling of €5 billion, as the group rides a wave of demand for power infrastructure tied to the artificial intelligence boom. The revised forecast came alongside second-quarter results that triggered a flurry of analyst upgrades, with four investment banks raising their price targets in quick succession.

The Munich-based energy technology group posted a net profit of €835 million for the three months ended March, up from €500 million in the year-earlier period, as earnings per share jumped to €0.89 from €0.50. Revenue climbed to €10.29 billion, representing growth of just over 3% compared with the prior-year quarter. Operating results before special items reached €1.2 billion, bolstered by a strong performance from the company's Indian subsidiary, which saw its after-tax profit surge by more than 50%.

Order intake exploded 30% to €17.7 billion, pushing the total order backlog to a record €154 billion. The surge was fueled by outsized demand from data center operators and grid operators scrambling to connect new renewable capacity and AI-driven computing loads. Management now expects full-year comparable revenue growth of 14% to 16%, an operating margin between 10% and 12%, and net profit of around €4 billion.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?

The doubled cash flow target — from a prior maximum of €5 billion to €8 billion — underscores the strength of the grid technology division, which is benefiting disproportionately from electrification and digitalization trends. Chief executive Christian Bruch said the adjusted outlook reflects the group's confidence in sustained momentum.

Analysts are paying attention. JPMorgan lifted its price target on the stock from €200 to €225 with an "Overweight" rating. Goldman Sachs raised its target from €185 to €212, maintaining "Buy". Bernstein Research more aggressively bumped its target from €150 to €210 with an "Outperform" call, and Deutsche Bank edged its target up from €195 to €200, also sticking with "Buy".

But not everyone is convinced. Barclays hiked its target from just €100 to €110, a level still far below the current share price, and kept an "Equal Weight" rating. The bank's argument: the market has already priced in the best-case scenario as if those conditions will persist indefinitely, leaving the risk-reward profile balanced at best.

The stock closed Thursday at €178.04, up roughly 45% since the start of the year and within striking distance of its 52-week high of €188.00. While the November analyst day — when management is expected to unveil updated medium-term targets through 2030, with a focus on Gamesa's turnaround and grid technology's growth trajectory — is seen as the next major catalyst, the next regular earnings update is scheduled for August 5. For now, the combination of record orders and a dramatically improved cash flow outlook has given bulls plenty of ammunition, even as one lone skeptic warns that the rally has already front-loaded the good news.
