Shareholders of Shell received their quarterly cash distribution on March 30, 2026, with the energy giant disbursing its dividend for the final quarter of 2025. The payment of $0.372 per share reflects the company's robust financial performance and forms a core component of its broader capital return policy.

Robust Financial Performance Underpins Payout

The foundation for this distribution was a strong finish to 2025. Shell reported fourth-quarter net income of $4.1 billion, equating to $0.71 per diluted share. This result marks a substantial increase from the $0.15 per share recorded in the same period a year earlier. On an adjusted basis, earnings reached $3.3 billion. Based on full-year profits, the company’s payout ratio stands at approximately 50%, indicating that half of its earnings are being returned directly to equity holders.

Beyond the dividend, Shell is actively buying back its own shares, significantly boosting total shareholder returns. While the dividend alone offers a yield of 3.22%, the ongoing share repurchase program contributes an additional 5.8 percentage points, bringing the total yield to 9.0%. Evidence of these buybacks is visible in Euronext exchange filings, which show transactions were executed on four consecutive trading days in the final week of March, with the latest recorded on March 27.

Favorable Market Conditions Provide Support

Current oil prices, trading near $100 per barrel, are providing a tailwind for major energy producers' cash flows. This supportive commodity environment enables Shell to continue its generous capital return program, even as its historical dividend growth rate has moderated slightly to 5.7%. The company's share price has appreciated roughly 24% since the start of the year and is trading close to its 52-week high.
