ServiceNow shares extended their retreat on Wednesday, sliding 5.42% to €103.85 — a second consecutive day of heavy losses that trimmed a heady 18.20% one-week gain down to a still-formidable advance. Yet while retail sentiment soured, a major institutional player quietly doubled down: the Bank of New York Mellon expanded its stake by a staggering 409% during the fourth quarter of 2025, now holding roughly eight million shares worth approximately $1.23 billion.

The selloff follows a two-day surge of nearly 24% that had lifted the stock on a wave of optimism around AI agents complementing rather than cannibalizing enterprise software. Profit-taking set in swiftly, with the shares shedding 8.4% on Tuesday in dollar terms before Wednesday's euro-denominated drop confirmed the pattern. The 30-day annualized volatility sits above 91%, underscoring how quickly sentiment can shift in this name.

Underlying fundamentals, however, tell a more tempered story. ServiceNow posted first-quarter subscription revenue of $3.671 billion — up 22% year over year — while remaining performance obligations, a key forward-looking metric, climbed 25% to $27.7 billion. The company has guided for second-quarter subscription revenue between $3.815 billion and $3.820 billion, representing roughly 22.5% growth, and set a full-year target of $15.735 billion to $15.775 billion.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ServiceNow?

One detail from the earnings release is giving investors pause: delayed closures of several large on-premise deals in the Middle East trimmed Q1 subscription growth by approximately 75 basis points. Management acknowledged it is conservatively factoring geopolitical risks into the remainder of the fiscal year.

Meanwhile, ServiceNow is deepening ties with strategic partners. An expanded integration with Everbridge xMatters embeds that firm's orchestration component directly into ServiceNow's AI platform, aiming to automate complex workflows during critical IT outages. Cisco, at its "Cisco Live" conference, unveiled "Cloud Control," a unified platform for network management, security, and observability that relies on deep integration with ServiceNow, particularly for seamless communication between human operators and AI agents in hybrid cloud environments.

The timing of Wednesday's retreat coincided with three investor conferences featuring senior executives: Amit Zavery at the William Blair Growth Stock Conference, Gina Mastantuono at the Bank of America Global Technology Conference, and Gaurav Rewari at the Evercore Global TMT Conference. The markets will be listening for clarity on AI-driven workflow automation demand, subscription model resilience, and the integration of recently acquired security assets.

The broader tech sector is also feeling the heat. India's Nifty IT index tumbled more than 5% on Wednesday — its steepest single-day decline since February — driven by fears of a "SaaSpocalypse," the shift from seat-based to consumption-based pricing models. That rotation appears to be prompting dip-buying in ServiceNow: the buy-to-sell ratio jumped from 1.06 to 2.71. With a relative strength index of 41, the stock is not yet oversold, but the volatility — running above 91% — suggests that moves in either direction could remain rapid.
