SAP is turning the screw on customers reluctant to embrace cloud-based AI. New RISE and GROW contracts now contain a clause requiring clients to activate at least three Joule assistants within the first year — a clear signal that the German software giant wants adoption rates to accelerate, not just revenues. The market has taken notice: shares of SAP have surged 12% from last week’s 52-week low to trade at €154.90, though the rally has pushed the stock into technically overbought territory with an RSI reading of 92.7.

The catalyst for the renewed buying interest is the partnership with Anthropic, whose Claude language model will be integrated into SAP’s new Business AI Platform. That platform — unveiled at the Sapphire conference in Orlando — consolidates the Business Technology Platform, Business Data Cloud, and Business AI into a single controlled environment. CEO Christian Klein used his keynote to question whether SAP still qualifies as a traditional software company, positioning it instead as an orchestrator of enterprise data. The vision is an “autonomous enterprise” where AI agents do not merely assist but actively intervene in financial, supply chain, HR, and customer-facing processes. So far, 224 agents and 51 assistants have been deployed, with sustainability-focused agents already showing concrete results: compliance checks are said to shrink by over 50% and scenario simulations from one day to 20 minutes.

To execute this strategy, SAP has set up a €100 million fund to help partners implement the new platform. Anthropic is just one of several integration partners that also include AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Palantir. Klein’s team has also been busy on the M&A front, acquiring Dremio and Prior Labs to build out the data infrastructure needed for AI workloads. The resulting Business Data Cloud is described as an “Iceberg-native lakehouse” that will provide structured data for AI applications. The full integration of these new technologies into SAP’s standard software is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SAP?

Analysts remain broadly bullish despite the sharp recent run-up. Of the 21 analysts covering SAP, 18 rate it a buy. The average price target stands at €191, according to the primary article, while a separate note from TD Cowen lowered its target to $230 but kept the equivalent of a buy rating. The substantial gap between current levels and the analyst consensus suggests further upside is expected, even if short-term momentum indicators flash warning signals.

The next major milestone for investors will come on July 21, when SAP reports first-half results. By then, the market will have a clearer picture of whether the Joule activation mandate is translating into faster cloud migration and stronger subscription revenue. For now, the combination of a high-profile AI partnership, a sweeping platform overhaul, and contractual pressure on legacy customers has given SAP’s stock a shot in the arm — but the sustainability of the rally will depend on execution, not just vision.
