SAP’s annual Sapphire conference in Orlando delivered a flurry of strategic announcements, yet the stock’s recovery on Friday — which saw it close at €145.58, up 3.06% — did little to erase a bruising year-to-date decline of nearly 28%. The €60 million minority investment in Berlin-based workflow automation specialist n8n stood out as the most tangible expression of the group’s AI ambitions. n8n, now valued at $5.2 billion after a previous $2.5 billion valuation, will be natively integrated into Joule Studio on the SAP Business AI Platform, effectively pulling low-code workflow automation deeper into SAP’s own ecosystem.

The overarching theme of Sapphire was the “Autonomous Enterprise”, a concept that sees AI agents not just assisting but autonomously executing multi-step business processes. The newly unveiled SAP Autonomous Suite is set to encompass more than 50 domain-specific Joule Assistants and orchestrate a subset of over 200 specialised agents covering finance, supply chain, procurement, HR and customer experience. However, access to this entire AI bundle is tied to the SAP Cloud ERP — on-premise customers will receive it only if they commit to migrating to the cloud. To ease the transition, SAP has established a €100 million partner fund aimed at supporting implementation partners in deploying the AI assistants and developing new agents via Joule Studio.

That fund complements the n8n deal in building out an ecosystem designed to embed the AI platform into daily operations. But analysts remain cautious on the revenue horizon. DZ-Bank’s Armin Kremser described AI as “primarily an adoption topic, not yet a significant revenue driver”. Early proof points include Ericsson, which reported around 90,000 hours saved through SAP’s AI tools, and KPMG, which has deployed Joule for 3,000 consultants. Microsoft also plays a key role in this architecture: more than 60% of new RISE with SAP deployments this half are running on Azure, underscoring how tightly SAP’s growth narrative is now tied to hyperscaler partnerships and platform integration.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SAP?

Operationally, the first quarter of 2026 provided solid backup. Cloud revenue rose 27% on a currency-adjusted basis, while the cloud backlog expanded 25% to €21.9 billion. SAP reiterated its full-year guidance for cloud sales of between €25.8 billion and €26.2 billion, though management signalled a slower pace in the current quarter following the strong start. On the chart, the stock remains in a precarious position. Friday’s close of €145.58 leaves it just under 6% above the 52-week low of €137.62 touched on May 13, while nearly 47% below the peak of €271.60. The relative strength index (RSI) at 87.5 indicates a technically overbought condition, making any further rally vulnerable to a pullback.

The gap between SAP’s ambitious platform strategy and a share price that has lost more than a quarter of its value this year will need to narrow. The next test comes on July 23, when second-quarter figures are due. Investors will be watching closely for measurable acceleration in cloud migrations and any tangible uptick in demand for Joule-based applications — the metrics that will ultimately determine whether the AI offensive is more than just a compelling narrative.
