SAP’s push toward the autonomous enterprise is getting a fresh boost from the partner ecosystem. Oliver Schreiber, a veteran in enterprise applications, is moving to the consultancy UNITY as product manager, bringing his firm operayo into the UNITY Innovation Alliance. The collaboration will focus on building B2B applications atop SAP’s Business Technology Platform, with an emphasis on data management and AI agents — autonomous software units SAP envisions running complex business processes without human intervention.

The strategic hire comes as SAP shares attempt to recover from a brutal year. The stock closed at €156.40 on Friday, up 3.67 percent for the session and outpacing the software sector’s average gain of 1.35 percent. But the bounce barely dents the deeper damage: the stock remains 22.6 percent below its start of the year and has shed 40 percent over the past twelve months. At €271.60, the 52-week high looks distant, though Friday’s move helped push the price further from the 52-week trough of €137.62.

The technical picture, however, flashes a caution signal. The relative strength index sits at 78.2, firmly in overbought territory, and the stock trades 18 percent below its 200-day moving average while also lagging the 100-day line. Over the past 30 days, the shares have still managed to recover 7.26 percent, helped by momentum from SAP’s Sapphire conference in May, where the company unveiled its “Autonomous Enterprise” vision backed by more than 50 domain-specific AI agents. Recent acquisitions of Reltio, Dremio and Prior Labs underscore the investment in embedding artificial intelligence directly into customer workflows.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying SAP?

Analysts at Deutsche Bank, BMO and Goldman Sachs have reiterated buy recommendations, arguing that SAP is escaping the broader SaaS downturn by relying on its “clean core” strategy and cloud transformation. Unlike software rivals whose existing structures face disruption from generative AI, SAP’s shift to the cloud positions it to capitalize on AI demand rather than suffer from it.

Yet security remains a concern that could slow enterprise adoption. Research firm KuppingerCole warns that a “unified governance” approach must span all SAP applications, with particular attention to the safety of AI agents and “non-human identities.” Identity governance and privileged access management are becoming critical to winning over large customers; the acceptance of cloud solutions hinges on whether these risks stay manageable.

All eyes now turn to Paris. On Wednesday, June 3, CEO Christian Klein will speak at the BNP Paribas Exane CEO Conference. Market participants expect details on the integration of autonomous agents into S/4HANA, progress on the business technology platform’s scaling, and monetization of the Joule AI assistant, which is already deployed at Ericsson. The official second-quarter results are due July 22, with management guiding for cloud revenue of €25.8 billion to €26.2 billion — representing 23 to 25 percent growth — and operating profit between €11.9 billion and €12.3 billion.

On the home front, stable wage growth provides a supportive backdrop: German nominal wages in the first quarter ran 4.1 percent above inflation. Whether the stock can sustain its recovery will depend on how well it navigates the overbought technicals while Klein delivers concrete steps to turn the autonomous enterprise vision into a revenue driver. The fundamental story remains intact, but the next few weeks will test whether the share price can follow suit.
