Driven by record-breaking financial performance, the American trading platform Robinhood Markets is making a decisive move into Southeast Asia. The company has announced agreements to acquire two Indonesian financial firms: PT Buana Capital Sekuritas, a local brokerage, and PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, a licensed cryptocurrency trader. This strategic acquisition, pending approval from Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK), is slated for completion in the first half of 2026 and marks a pivotal step in the firm's international growth strategy.

Indonesia presents a compelling opportunity for Robinhood's model. The archipelago nation is home to an estimated 19 million active capital market investors and 17 million crypto traders. Furthermore, nearly half of the adult population lacks access to traditional banking services, positioning digital assets and trading platforms as key tools for financial inclusion—a segment where Robinhood has established significant expertise.

Patrick Chan, Robinhood's Head of Asia, will spearhead the expansion effort. Pieter Tanuri, the former majority owner of both Indonesian entities, will remain involved as a strategic advisor. The initial phase will focus on servicing the existing client base of Buana Capital before Robinhood rolls out its full suite of products and services to the new market.

Expansion Fueled by Record Earnings

This international push is underpinned by exceptionally strong quarterly results. For Q3 2025, Robinhood reported record revenue of $1.27 billion, representing a year-over-year doubling. The cryptocurrency segment was a standout performer, with revenue soaring over 300% to $268 million.

Key financial and operational metrics from the quarter include:

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Robinhood?

  • Transaction-based revenue: $730 million (+129%)
  • Options revenue: $304 million (+50%)
  • Funded customers: 26.8 million (+10%)
  • Gold subscribers: 3.9 million (+77%)
  • Earnings per share: $0.61 (+259%)

The company's diversification strategy continues to bear fruit, with eleven business lines now each generating at least $100 million on an annualized basis.

Analyst Confidence and Strategic Evolution

Wall Street maintains a generally favorable view of Robinhood's stock, with a consensus rating of "Moderate Buy." The average price target stands around $137, slightly above recent trading levels. Following the robust Q3 report, several analysts revised their targets upward, including Citizens Financial at $180 and Mizuho at $172 per share.

Robinhood's transformation from a simple trading app to a diversified financial services provider was further cemented by its inclusion in the S&P 500 index in September 2025. Earlier in the year, the acquisition of Bitstamp significantly enhanced the company's institutional cryptocurrency capabilities.

Building a Global Footprint

Robinhood's international presence is gradually taking shape. Beyond its core U.S. market, the platform is already operational in the United Kingdom and the European Union, serving close to 700,000 funded customers abroad. The move into Indonesia strategically reduces the company's reliance on its domestic business and taps into a demographically favorable region with high adoption rates for digital financial solutions. The successful integration of the Indonesian acquisitions by mid-2026 will be a critical test of how swiftly Robinhood can establish its complete product ecosystem in Southeast Asia.
