At the XPONENTIAL Europe 2026 exhibition in Düsseldorf, running from March 24th to 26th, Rheinmetall is presenting a clear vision of its future direction. The company is moving beyond its traditional identity as a defense contractor to position itself as an integrated systems provider for digital warfare. This showcase is a direct reflection of a comprehensive corporate realignment that took effect at the start of the year.

Financial Ambitions Amid Market Volatility

Despite a recent correction in its share price, Rheinmetall's fundamental growth narrative appears robust. The company's order backlog stood at €63.8 billion as of the end of December. For the full fiscal year, management anticipates revenue growth of 40 to 45 percent, projecting sales between €14.0 and €14.5 billion, with an operating margin target of approximately 19 percent.

On the stock market, the shares have retreated significantly from their peak, down roughly 11 percent over the past 30 trading days and nearly 25 percent below the all-time high recorded in September 2025. However, with its substantial order book and a defined expansion strategy into next-generation systems, the company is seen as well-positioned for the year ahead, provided it can meet its ambitious profitability goals.

A Portfolio Built for Modern Conflict

The company's new structure, implemented on January 1, 2026, formally establishes three core segments: Air Defence, Digital Systems, and Naval Systems. This reorganization is a strategic response to shifting defense priorities across Europe.

The technologies on display in Düsseldorf underscore this pivot. Key exhibits include the FV-014 attack drone, designed for reconnaissance and precision strikes while retaining human-in-the-loop control. For counter-drone operations, the AI-enabled C-UAS Interceptor RV-005 is on show; it neutralizes hostile small drones via kinetic impact or a warhead, even in electronically contested environments.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

The portfolio is further augmented by the YARO Cobot, a durable collaborative robot built for extreme conditions, and teleoperation solutions from Rheinmetall subsidiary MIRA. These systems allow for the real-time remote control of vehicles over 5G networks.

A Foothold in the Space Domain

A particular strategic emphasis is being placed on space-based reconnaissance. Through the joint venture Rheinmetall ICEYE Space Solutions—in which Rheinmetall holds a 60 percent stake—the group is developing a sovereign German SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite constellation. Production of the first satellites is scheduled to commence before the end of this year.

This move into space-based assets, combined with its growing suite of unmanned and robotic systems, encapsulates Rheinmetall's transformation from a traditional hardware manufacturer to a technology-driven systems architect for contemporary and future defense needs.
