Investor focus at Rheinmetall has decisively shifted from recent executive commentary to substantial defense contracts, with the company making a major strategic play in the unmanned aerial systems (UAS) sector. This pivot is providing significant upward pressure on its share price, anchored by two specific multi-billion euro programs currently in development.

Quarterly Results and Shareholder Returns on the Horizon

Beyond operational developments, the market is anticipating key financial milestones. For the concluded fiscal year, the management board will propose a substantially increased dividend of €11.50 per share at the Annual General Meeting on May 12. A fundamental update on current performance will come even sooner, with the official first-quarter 2026 results scheduled for release on May 7.

A Framework Contract for Combat Drones

Central to the bullish sentiment is a massive framework agreement under consideration by the German parliament's budget committee this week. The contract involves the delivery of "Raider" combat drones with a potential total value of up to €2.4 billion. An initial firm order, worth nearly €298 million, is planned to equip the Panzerbrigade 45 stationed in Lithuania. The market reacted favorably to these prospects: Rheinmetall shares advanced 3.89 percent on Tuesday to €1,454.50. This movement has effectively sidelined recent controversies stemming from CEO Armin Papperger's reported disparaging remarks about Ukrainian drone manufacturers.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Rheinmetall?

Forging a Key Alliance with Boeing Australia

Concurrently, the defense group is strengthening its position in autonomous loyal wingman systems. Rheinmetall announced a far-reaching partnership with Boeing Australia on Tuesday. The newly formed consortium will bid for the German Bundeswehr's "Collaborative Combat Aircraft" (CCA) project, positioning itself against competitors including Airbus and the startup Helsing.

The consortium's proposal will be built around the long-range MQ-28 Ghost Bat combat drone. Planned for service entry with the Bundeswehr in 2029, the program demands strictly defined technical capabilities:
* Stealth characteristics
* High subsonic flight speeds
* An operational range exceeding 1,000 kilometers
* A weapons payload capacity of several hundred kilograms

This dual-track strategy in unmanned technologies underscores Rheinmetall's ambition to capture a leading role in a critical future segment of the defense market.
