Refined Energy Commences Inaugural Drilling Campaign in Athabasca Basin

Refined Energy begins its first diamond drill program at the Dufferin West property in Saskatchewan, targeting a high-priority EM conductor for uranium mineralization.

Refined Energy has transitioned from the planning phase to active field operations. The company has initiated its first proprietary diamond drilling program in Saskatchewan’s prolific Athabasca Basin. The core objective is to determine whether a promising geophysical anomaly corresponds to actual uranium mineralization. The forthcoming analysis of physical drill core will provide a definitive assessment of the strength of existing data.

Geological Rationale and Strategic Location

The focus of this campaign is the Dufferin West property, situated within a renowned uranium district. The area is considered geologically favorable due to its proximity to established assets; it neighbors NexGen Energy's SW3 property and lies approximately 18 kilometers from Cameco's Centennial deposit.

The exploration model is well-understood in this region: high-grade Athabasca uranium deposits are frequently located along fault structures and near the unconformity contact between sandstone and the underlying basement rock. Refined Energy is targeting mineralization both at this unconformity, interpreted to be relatively shallow at Dufferin West (between 60 and 340 meters), and within the basement itself. The property is also positioned on or near the trace of the Virgin River Shear Zone and its splays—structures known to act as conduits for mineralizing fluids.

Drill Program Details and Methodology

The launch of drilling was announced on March 2. The initial phase comprises a minimum of three holes totaling roughly 1,200 meters. A key technical aspect is the collection of oriented core. This approach is designed to yield more than a simple binary result; it will gather critical geological and structural data essential for refining future target generation.

The specific target is an electromagnetic (EM) conductor, originally identified through airborne VTEM surveys and subsequently better defined by a ground-based Time-Domain Moving Loop EM survey.

Concurrently, a ground gravity survey is planned. This work aims to prioritize additional targets and sharpen the focus for potential follow-up drilling programs.

Financing and Project Option Agreement

The 2026 program is budgeted at approximately CAD 1.7 million and is slated to be fully funded by Refined Energy. The company has built in flexibility to expand the campaign based on timing, progress, and interim results. Funding was secured in February via a charity flow-through private placement that raised CAD 1.5 million.

A strategically important option agreement with Eagle Plains governs the project. To earn a 60% interest by December 31, 2026, Refined must fulfill several conditions: make a CAD 275,000 payment, issue 1,000,000 consolidated shares, and fund CAD 2.6 million in exploration expenditures. A subsequent phase allows the company to increase its stake to 75% by the end of 2028 by making an additional CAD 500,000 payment, issuing a further 500,000 shares, and financing another CAD 3.0 million in exploration.

Market Reaction and Next Steps

The operational milestone garnered market attention. On Friday, the company's shares closed at €0.41, having posted significant intraday gains.

The immediate focus now shifts to the rhythm of the coming weeks. The analysis of the first core samples and downhole geophysical data will be paramount. These results will validate the target area and directly inform the decision on whether, and how, to expand the drilling program. The findings from this initial phase will ultimately set the direction for the next round of exploration.
