POET Technologies: $830M in Fresh Capital Meets a Steep Stock Slide and a Lingering Class Action
02.07.2026 - 12:52:49 | boerse-global.deThe shift from research laboratory to production floor is rarely seamless, and for POET Technologies it is shaping up as the defining test of the company’s credibility. The photonic-chip developer is now staffing aggressively for that transition, planning to add roughly 50 new employees to its current global headcount of 115. It has already expanded its lab capacity in Singapore and carved out additional assembly space in Malaysia. The target: begin mass shipments of optical engines in the second half of 2026, with monthly production capacity reaching one million units by the end of 2027.
The stock market, however, is not yet willing to give management the benefit of the doubt. Shares closed at €8.50 on Wednesday and slipped a cent to €8.49 the following day, virtually unchanged on the session. Yet over the past month the stock has fallen about 28%, including a 5% decline in the last week alone. The annualized volatility of 123% underscores just how skittish investors remain around a company that has yet to convert its technology into meaningful revenue.
That is not for lack of financial ammunition. Over the past twelve months POET has raised $830 million in equity capital, and a further $661 million could flow in through the exercise of outstanding warrants. A portion of that war chest has already been earmarked for the factory ramp: management plans to spend roughly $50 million on manufacturing equipment in the second half of this year.
On the customer front, the company reports active negotiations with more than ten potential clients, and it expects these deals to generate annual revenue exceeding $100 million once they mature. Named among them are a production order for 800G optical engines and the recent agreement with Lumilens. Another client has commissioned development work on external light sources. The internally developed hybrid laser, the “POET Blazar,” remains on schedule for broad deployment in AI networks beginning in 2028.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying POET Technologies?
Yet the pipeline of opportunities is shadowed by a legal overhang. Several law firms continue to circulate notices about a class-action lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. The suit covers investors who bought POET shares between April 1, 2026, and April 27, 2026, at 8:57 a.m. Eastern Time, and alleges that the company made misleading statements concerning tax disclosures and a dispute over a business agreement with an executive.
Against this mixed backdrop, the annual general meeting held in June provided a solid vote of confidence. All six director nominees—including Suresh Venkatesan and Glen Riley—were re-elected with at least 94.35% of votes cast, and Davidson & Company LLP was confirmed as auditor with 97% approval. Management used the virtual gathering to reiterate the production timetable and underscore that the expansion plan remains on track.
The technical picture for the stock tells a tale of two trends. The share price still sits above its 200-day moving average of €6.76, a sign that the long-term uptrend remains intact. But it has fallen below the 50-day average of €10.43, and from the 52-week high of €18.84 touched on May 15, 2026, the stock is now down nearly 55%. The 52-week low of €3.40 from November 2025 stands far below. Over the past twelve months the stock still shows a gain of about 74%, and year-to-date it is up roughly 39%. Some analysts argue the current valuation is already stretched: with a market capitalization of $1.7 billion, InvestingPro’s fair value estimate places the stock above what the underlying business justifies.
POET Technologies at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The real reckoning will come in the second half of 2026. Concrete shipment figures and fresh details on client commitments will determine whether investor faith can be rebuilt—while the class-action suit remains a persistent, unresolved distraction.
