A class action lawsuit has been filed against hydrogen technology company Plug Power Inc., with investors alleging the firm misled the market regarding a substantial federal loan guarantee and the status of its production facilities. The legal complaint, submitted to a U.S. district court, claims these actions artificially inflated the company's share price for much of 2025 before a significant collapse in November.

Core Allegations: Loan Guarantee and Project Status

The legal action centers on a $1.66 billion loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy. Plaintiffs contend that Plug Power's management repeatedly overstated the likelihood of securing these funds. Furthermore, the lawsuit alleges that the company provided misleading updates on the construction progress of six planned green hydrogen production plants. According to the filing, these representations created an inflated impression of the company's financial standing and operational milestones between January and mid-November 2025. Several law firms are now preparing the case for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Share Price Reaction and Current Trading

The market reacted sharply when the situation became clearer in the autumn of 2025. On November 10, Plug Power disclosed it was pausing activities related to the federal loan program to reallocate capital. Media reports emerged just days later indicating a complete halt to the planned hydrogen facility projects. The consequence for the stock was immediate: on November 14, shares plummeted by nearly 18% in a single session.

Although the equity has seen some upward movement on a monthly view, its current price of €1.96 remains substantially below levels seen prior to the escalation of issues surrounding the federal support.

Timeline for Affected Shareholders

Investors who purchased Plug Power shares during the relevant period and suffered losses may apply to the court to serve as lead plaintiff. The deadline for such applications is April 3, 2026. The court will select an individual to lead the proceedings against the company and its executives. Plug Power has not yet issued an official statement regarding the filed complaint.
