Australia's Pengana Capital Group has released its half-year results, revealing a significant contraction in profitability. For the six-month period ending December 31, 2025, the asset manager posted a net profit of AUD 1.71 million. This figure represents a steep 51% fall from the AUD 3.50 million earned in the prior corresponding period. The company's earnings per share (EPS) mirrored this decline, nearly halving from 4.02 cents to 1.82 cents. Management attributed the weaker result primarily to a drop in ordinary operating income.

Operational Base Shows Resilience

Despite the profit slump, key operational metrics demonstrated stability. The firm's Funds Under Management (FUM) stood at approximately AUD 3.80 billion as of the end of February 2026. This marks only a slight decrease from the AUD 3.84 billion recorded in January. A positive note from the balance sheet was the increase in net tangible assets per share, which rose to 40.83 cents.

Internal Governance Concerns Surface

Alongside the financial results, an unusual public disagreement has emerged, pointing to potential friction within the company's leadership. Pengana Capital announced an agreement concerning the Pengana International Equities Portfolio with Antipodes Partners. However, the announcement was promptly qualified by the subsidiary directly involved, Pengana International Equities Limited. The board of that entity stated the announcement was made without its explicit approval—an event that highlights apparent coordination issues at the senior management level.

Dividend Maintained Despite Headwinds

The board has elected to maintain its dividend distribution, notwithstanding the lower earnings. A fully franked interim dividend of 2.5 cents per share has been declared for the half-year. The payment to shareholders is scheduled for March 31, 2026.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Pengana Capital?

The company now faces a dual challenge: navigating the operational headwinds that compressed earnings and resolving the internal discord over the Antipodes Partners arrangement. The impact of this management disagreement on future strategic direction remains an open question for investors.
