Palantir Shares Face Dual Pressures Amid Strong Performance

Palantir posts 70% revenue growth but faces UK political opposition to an FCA deal and analyst skepticism over its high valuation, even as its US defense business thrives.

Palantir Technologies finds itself navigating a complex landscape where robust operational success clashes with political friction and market skepticism. While its defense division achieves unprecedented milestones, political opposition in the United Kingdom and a persistent valuation debate are creating headwinds for the stock.

Valuation Concerns Overshadow Record Growth

Despite posting exceptional financial results, Palantir's share price remains a point of contention for investors. The equity declined approximately five percent in a single Tuesday session, reflecting broader sector weakness. The iShares Expanded Tech-Software ETF has shed over 20 percent since the start of the year as corporate IT budgets pivot from traditional software licenses toward AI platforms.

The company's fourth-quarter 2025 revenue reached $1.406 billion, marking a 70 percent year-over-year increase. Its U.S. commercial customer segment saw even more explosive growth, surging 137 percent to $507 million. Management has set an ambitious revenue target for the full 2026 fiscal year, projecting between $7.182 billion and $7.198 billion, which would represent growth of around 60 percent. Within that, the U.S. commercial business is expected to surpass the $3 billion mark.

Analysts at Jefferies, however, maintain an "Underperform" rating on the shares. They argue that with a forward price-to-earnings ratio ranging from approximately 111 to 121, the stock is simply overvalued despite its operational strength. Until the market reconciles this discrepancy, the share price—currently trading about 26 percent below its 52-week high—remains vulnerable to further correction.

UK Political Opposition Targets New FCA Deal

Across the Atlantic, political resistance is mounting against a proposed collaboration between Palantir and the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Members of Parliament from the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party have formally called for the contract's suspension. Their primary concern centers on the processing of sensitive investigative data through U.S.-owned technology.

The project in question is a twelve-week pilot, for which the FCA would pay roughly £30,000 per week. The initiative aims to leverage artificial intelligence to detect financial crimes—including money laundering, fraud, and insider trading—within data from more than 42,000 financial firms. Defending the decision before the Treasury Select Committee, FCA Chief Executive Nikhil Rathi stated that the regulator simply needs access to the best available tools.

Critics point to Palantir's already substantial footprint in Britain's public sector. Existing contracts with the National Health Service (NHS) and the Ministry of Defence collectively exceed £500 million, fueling concerns over becoming overly reliant on a single vendor.

Palantir at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Maven Smart System Cements Pentagon Partnership

Contrasting the UK debate, Palantir is solidifying its role as a cornerstone of U.S. military strategy. In early March, the Pentagon officially designated the Maven Smart System as a "Program of Record," a status that guarantees long-term, multi-year funding. The system is currently deployed across all U.S. combatant commands, integrating satellite, drone, and radar data to compress military decision-making processes from hours to minutes. The total contract value for this system has now grown to approximately $1.3 billion.

This deepening defense relationship underscores the company's critical role in national security, even as it faces scrutiny in other governmental domains.
