Palantir's Transatlantic Divide: Regulatory Hurdles in Europe Offset U.S. Commercial Surge

Palantir deepens its US commercial foothold with AI mortgage platform, while legal disputes and data concerns hinder its European government business growth.

Palantir Technologies finds itself navigating two starkly different realities. In the United States, the data analytics firm is aggressively expanding its commercial footprint, most recently making significant inroads into the core of the American mortgage industry. Across the Atlantic, however, its growth is hampered by legal disputes and persistent concerns over data sovereignty that are chilling its prospects with European government clients.

Mortgage Sector Integration Deepens U.S. Foothold

A key strategic move is embedding Palantir's artificial intelligence directly into the heavily regulated U.S. financial system. In collaboration with technology firm Moder, the company is constructing an AI-powered platform designed for mortgage origination and processing. Freedom Mortgage has been announced as the inaugural pilot client, already utilizing the system to enhance the speed and precision of its daily operations.

This initiative represents more than a superficial analytical tool. The software is being built as core infrastructure, integrated directly into existing systems for credit assessment and regulatory compliance. This significantly deepens Palantir's presence in finance, building on a prior partnership established with U.S. agency Fannie Mae in May 2025 aimed at combating mortgage fraud.

Strong Fundamentals Underpin Bullish Analyst Views

The successful expansion into commercial and civilian sectors is fueling analyst optimism. Mizuho recently reaffirmed its Buy rating on Palantir shares, issuing a price target of $195. Analyst Gregg Moskowitz points to the company's unique market position, robust revenue expansion, and improving profitability margins. This outlook is supported by compelling fundamental data:

  • Fourth Quarter 2025: Total revenue surged by 70 percent, reaching approximately $1.41 billion.
  • Commercial Business: Revenue from commercial clients jumped 82 percent in the final quarter, now accounting for nearly half of all income.
  • 2026 Guidance: Management forecasts U.S. commercial revenue will exceed $3.14 billion for 2026, representing growth of at least 115 percent.

Despite these strong operational metrics, the stock closed Friday's session down 2.49 percent at €130.72. Given a valuation of approximately 130 times expected earnings, the company faces persistent pressure to exceed high market expectations to justify its current price level.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Palantir?

European Expansion Faces Legal and Sovereignty Headwinds

The company's European narrative contrasts sharply with its U.S. success. Palantir is currently engaged in a lawsuit against the small Swiss publication Republik. The magazine reported in December 2025 that the Swiss government had repeatedly rejected contracts with the data firm. An internal Swiss military document from December 2024 explicitly cited data sovereignty concerns, warning of potential access to sensitive information by U.S. authorities.

The lawsuit, filed in January, does not seek monetary damages. Instead, it alleges that the publication failed to provide adequate right of reply under Swiss media law. Critics, including the European Federation of Journalists, have characterized the legal action as an attempt to intimidate critical reporting through litigation.

This legal challenge highlights the central tension in Palantir's growth story. While the deep integration of its AI systems into the U.S. financial sector creates a foundation for reliable, recurring revenue streams, structural data privacy concerns are simultaneously applying brakes to its expansion within European government contracts. These concerns present a tangible obstacle to the company's broader international growth ambitions.
