Palantir Technologies has locked in a crucial long-term revenue stream from the Pentagon, even as its stock faces turbulence driven by its CEO's provocative political manifesto. The U.S. Department of Defense has moved to formally establish Palantir's Maven Smart System, an AI platform for battlefield target identification, as an official "Program of Record." This classification, mandated by a March 9 memorandum from Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg, transitions the technology from experimental budgets to a secured line of funding within the U.S. defense budget for the current fiscal year.

This operational milestone follows a significant license agreement signed with the U.S. Marine Corps last fall. The formal recognition is expected to accelerate the rollout of Palantir's AI tools across additional military branches, providing the company with stable, predictable income from its largest government customer.

However, investor sentiment has turned volatile. The stock currently trades at 123.16 EUR, marking a monthly decline of approximately 11 percent and sitting about 13 percent below its level at the start of the year. The recent pressure is largely attributed to a 22-point document titled "The Technological Republic," authored by CEO Alex Karp. In it, Karp argues for "hard power through software," suggesting a potential U.S. military draft and advocating for the rearmament of allies like Germany and Japan.

The manifesto has sparked intense criticism beyond financial circles. Mark Coeckelbergh, a philosophy of technology professor at the University of Vienna, labeled its message an "example of techno-fascism." Former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis accused Palantir of signaling a willingness to place AI-driven threats alongside nuclear dangers. Concurrently, the company faces political scrutiny over its work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), with Democratic lawmakers demanding details on how its tools supported Trump-era deportation policies.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Palantir?

This controversy unfolds just weeks before a critical financial update. Palantir is scheduled to report its first-quarter 2026 results on May 4. The company has guided for revenue of approximately $1.53 billion and an adjusted operating income of about $872 million for the quarter. For the full year 2026, management targets revenue of roughly $7.19 billion, which would represent year-over-year growth of 61 percent.

This follows a robust fourth quarter in 2025, where revenue surged 70 percent and U.S. commercial business revenue exploded by 137 percent. The company also recently generated $2.1 billion in free cash flow, with projections pointing toward $4 billion by 2026.

Despite these strong operational metrics, the stock's valuation remains a central debate. Investors are currently paying 47 times book value for Palantir, a stark premium to the industry average of around three. A discounted cash flow model from Simply Wall St. suggests a fair value of approximately $122.51 per share. With the U.S. stock price near $146, this implies the equity could be overvalued by about 19 percent. Analysts are deeply divided between those betting on continued AI-driven acceleration and skeptics warning of historically high price-to-earnings multiples.

Palantir at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Technically, the share price is wrestling with its 50-day moving average at 122.74 EUR. Holding above this level could support the short-term uptrend, while a break below may trigger further selling. The upcoming earnings report will be a key test of whether Palantir's growth narrative can continue to justify its premium or if reputational risks and valuation concerns will dominate the narrative.
