The Austrian energy and chemicals group OMV has seen its equity reach unprecedented levels following the release of its integrated annual report for 2025. Trading closed on Friday at a historic high of €62.85 per share, marking an advance of approximately 30% since the start of the year. This rally is underpinned by concrete financial strength and strategic clarity, not merely market sentiment.

Robust Financial Foundation and Enhanced Disclosure

A cornerstone of the recent report is its commitment to transparency. For the first time, OMV has published a consolidated disclosure detailing payments to government entities, in alignment with EU directives for the extractive industries. These payments, which totaled €2.24 billion globally, were predominantly linked to production taxes and royalties from its upstream operations.

Financially, the company demonstrates remarkable resilience. It generated an operating cash flow of €5.2 billion, while maintaining a lean net debt-to-equity ratio of just 14%. This robust financial health provides management with significant flexibility as it executes its ongoing strategic repositioning.

A Revised Framework for Shareholder Returns

The board will propose a total dividend of €4.40 per share for the 2025 financial year at the Annual General Meeting scheduled for May 27. This payout comprises a regular distribution of €3.15 and a special dividend of €1.25.

However, a new methodology will govern dividends starting in 2026. Future payouts will be derived from two components: 50% of the Borouge International dividends attributable to OMV, plus 20% to 30% of the group's operating cash flow excluding those specific Borouge distributions. This shift reflects the changed corporate structure following the deconsolidation of the Borealis group and other recent transactions. The first dividend calculated under this new model will be paid in 2027.

Upcoming Milestones: First Quarter 2026 Preview

Market attention will now turn to the company's upcoming trading update on April 9, which will provide initial operational data for Q1 2026, including production volumes and refinery margins. A key focus will be the early performance of the chemicals division following its recent structural overhaul. The comprehensive quarterly report is set for publication on April 30.
