Shares in Austrian energy group OMV surged more than 5% on Wednesday, reaching €52.95. The catalyst was the company's full-year 2025 report, which featured a dividend proposal that resonated strongly with the market. This commitment to shareholder returns comes despite a year characterized by a decline in core earnings.

Key Financial Highlights for 2025:

  • Proposed Dividend per Share: €4.40 (comprising a €3.15 base dividend and a €1.25 variable component)
  • Clean CCS Operating Result: €4.6 billion (a 10% decrease year-on-year)
  • Net Income: €1.9 billion (down 7%)
  • Operating Cash Flow: €5.2 billion (remained stable)

The company's overall operational performance was supported by a strategy of diversification. While the Energy segment felt the pressure of lower commodity prices, seeing its result drop 29% to €2.7 billion, other divisions delivered robust growth.

Notably, the Chemicals & Materials unit reported a substantial 71% increase in its clean CCS operating result, which reached €784 million. The Fuels & Feedstock segment also grew, advancing 20% to €1.1 billion. This balanced portfolio effectively offset weakness in one area with strength in others, underpinning the group's financial resilience.

Financial Strength and Forward-Looking Projects

OMV's solid financial footing is evidenced by its stable operating cash flow of €5.2 billion. The company has outlined capital expenditure plans of approximately €3.2 billion, signaling continued investment for future growth.

A central pillar of this growth strategy is the Neptun Deep natural gas project in the Black Sea. Development remains on schedule, with first gas expected in 2027. This project is crucial to OMV's ambitious target of achieving a total production rate of 400,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2030. For the coming year, management's planning assumes an average Brent crude oil price of $65 per barrel, with group production anticipated to be slightly below 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

The final decision on the proposed dividend distribution will be put to a shareholder vote at the Annual General Meeting scheduled for May 27, 2026.
