Office Lighting Gets a USB Upgrade: First Certified Standing Lamp with Built-In Charging Hits the Market

Performance in Lighting's SL730+ becomes the first freestanding office light with integrated USB to pass independent safety tests, as LEDVANCE and Eizo launch efficient office peripherals.

A German lighting manufacturer has secured a landmark certification for a standing lamp that does more than just illuminate workspaces. The Performance in Lighting GmbH has received the ENEC-VDE certification—along with a CB certificate—for its SL730+ standing lamp series, marking what the company says is the first time a freestanding office light with an integrated USB power supply has passed independent safety and performance testing.

The certification, awarded by the VDE testing institute, covers more than just the lamp’s basic illumination functions. It extends to all color variants of the series, every version equipped with electronic control gear (ECG), the built-in sensors for daylight- and presence-dependent control, and—crucially—the specific USB power supply module. This means office workers can charge smartphones, tablets, or other mobile devices directly at their desks without hunting for wall sockets or carrying separate power adapters.

The SL730+ enters a market increasingly focused on holistic efficiency and ergonomic workplace standards. In a parallel development, LEDVANCE has introduced the Compact Gen2 LED panel, designed specifically for office environments. These panels achieve a luminous efficacy of up to 140 lm/W, come with a 5-year warranty, and promise long maintenance intervals—underscoring a broader industry shift toward low-maintenance, high-efficiency lighting solutions that meet the demands of modern work settings.

But lighting alone doesn't create a healthy workspace. The push for certified quality and low resource consumption extends to other peripherals. Eizo has launched the FlexScan EV2400R, a business monitor engineered for minimal power draw. The 24-inch Full-HD display operates at just 8 W with a brightness of 150 cd/m². In technical testing, it reached a maximum brightness of 343.6 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 1625:1, earning an overall score of 87 out of 100 points—a "very good" rating. Eizo backs the device with a 7-year warranty that includes an exchange service.

For companies investing in durable, safety-tested infrastructure, independent certification marks like the ENEC-VDE seal serve as a critical guide. The combination of certified lighting systems such as the SL730+ series and energy-efficient peripherals like modern monitors illustrates the progress being made in outfitting ergonomic office workplaces—where every component, from the overhead light to the screen on the desk, is now subject to rigorous third-party validation.
