Nvidia's Pre-Earnings Rally: Vera Rubin Production Locked, $40 Billion Infrastructure Bet Expands
12.05.2026 - 20:31:34 | boerse-global.de
The semiconductor giant hit a fresh all-time high of $223.75 on Tuesday, pushing its market capitalisation past $5.4 trillion for the first time. The milestone comes just over a week before quarterly results, with analysts rushing to lift forecasts as hardware milestones and a sprawling infrastructure spending spree converge.
Rubin Platform Moves from Blueprint to Production
Nvidia's next-generation architecture, Vera Rubin — the successor to the Blackwell line — has cleared a critical design review, with production variants of the new AI servers now finalised. The company confirmed that Rubin-based products will reach partner customers in the second half of 2026. The performance target is steep: management projects a tenfold reduction in inference cost per token compared with prior generations. First adopters include the usual hyperscaler cohort — Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Meta and Oracle.
The Vera Rubin timeline dovetails with the ramp of the current-generation B300 chip, which Citi analysts say is accelerating faster than expected. That dynamic, they argue, will push both unit volumes and revenue above consensus estimates.
A $40 Billion Infrastructure Offensive
Nvidia has deployed over $40 billion in stakes and infrastructure partnerships in the first four months of the year alone, signalling a strategic pivot from pure-chip supplier to deep-pocketed patron of the AI supply chain. Three deals stand out:
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nvidia?
- IREN: An investment right of up to $2.1 billion in the data-centre operator, covering the build-out of up to 5 gigawatts of AI infrastructure centred on the Sweetwater campus in Texas.
- Corning: A $3.2 billion commitment to expand optical connectivity solutions, with the goal of a tenfold increase in fibre-optic and photonics manufacturing capacity. Nvidia will help build three plants in North Carolina and Texas, creating at least 3,000 jobs.
- OpenAI: The single largest outlay at $30 billion, securing 3 gigawatts of dedicated inference capacity running on Vera Rubin systems.
The Corning agreement alone marks a deeper integration into physical infrastructure. The plants will multiply Corning's US glass-fibre capacity tenfold, addressing the bandwidth bottlenecks that constrain large-scale AI deployments.
Analysts Tug Estimates Higher
Citi now forecasts first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of roughly $80 billion — about $1.4 billion above the Wall Street consensus — and sees a sequential climb to $89 billion in the following quarter. Goldman Sachs lands in the same ballpark with a $80.05 billion revenue projection and adjusted earnings per share of $1.86, which beats the consensus by 7%. Goldman also flags that investors will watch closely whether Nvidia raises its cumulative revenue target of $1 trillion from the Blackwell, Blackwell Ultra and Rubin platforms across 2025–2027.
The optimism rests on a foundation of swelling capital budgets at hyperscalers. Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Meta collectively raised their 2026 capex to around $725 billion, a roughly 77% year-on-year surge, with data centres for training large language models and real-time inference driving the bulk of spending.
Margins Matter More Than the Top Line
Goldman advises that gross margin will command at least as much attention as revenue during the May 20 earnings call. Management is expected to reaffirm a mid-70% margin range for calendar 2026. Any softening of that guidance would rattle markets more than another revenue beat, the bank warns, especially as memory prices rise and the Rubin platform's cost structures introduce unknowns that sell-side models haven't fully captured.

Technical Strength, Historical Tailwind
The stock trades around €186 in Frankfurt, near its 52-week high, with a 12-month gain of roughly 68%. It sits well above all major moving averages, underpinning the recent uptrend. Historically, Nvidia shares have risen after every first-quarter print in recent years, often accompanied by a new product cycle launch. Whether the B300 ramp and hyperscaler demand can extend that streak will be tested on May 20.
The event calendar doesn't stop there. On June 1, Jensen Huang delivers a keynote at the GTC conference in Taipei, where he is expected to detail the Vera Rubin software stack and present the "Kyber" roadmap outlook — a catalyst that could drive the next re-rating of growth expectations.
