Novo Nordisk Accelerates Global Expansion with Oral Wegovy Debut and New Production Hub Ahead of Key Pipeline Data
04.06.2026 - 18:13:09 | boerse-global.deNovo Nordisk is making a two-pronged push to fortify its position in the obesity and diabetes market, unveiling a newly acquired manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic while simultaneously rolling out the oral version of Wegovy in its first international market outside the United States. The Danish drugmaker’s moves come as investors brace for a pivotal week of clinical data that could determine whether the stock can sustain its recent recovery.
The production site in the Czech Republic, purchased from Novavax in 2024 for $200 million, will manufacture active ingredients for the next generation of diabetes and obesity therapies. Originally used to produce components for Novavax’s Covid-19 vaccine and Baxter’s swine flu vaccine, the plant is being repurposed to support a business segment that generated 93.7% of Novo Nordisk’s revenue last year. An official inauguration is scheduled for June 12, with Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Novo Nordisk executive Mike Doustdar expected to attend.
Meanwhile, the oral formulation of semaglutide — sold as Wegovy — has landed in the United Arab Emirates, marking the first commercial launch beyond the U.S. Management cited local demand and the region’s healthcare infrastructure as key drivers for selecting the UAE. The pill, based on the Phase 3 OASIS-4 study, helped consistent users shed roughly 17% of their body weight. Additional markets are slated for the second half of 2026, though Novo Nordisk has not yet named which countries will follow.
The stock responded positively to the twin announcements, climbing 4.4% to €38.01 on one day and 3.52% to €37.67 on another, depending on the trading session. Shares now sit roughly 5.5% above their 50-day moving average of €35.70, but remain nearly 46% below the 52-week high of €70.13. On a year-to-date basis, the stock has shed almost 15%, and over the trailing twelve months it has fallen more than 40%. The 200-day moving average of €41.72 remains firmly out of reach.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Novo Nordisk?
Clinical catalysts loom large on the near-term horizon. From June 5 to 8, Novo Nordisk will present results from the Phase 3 REIMAGINE study for CagriSema, its next-generation obesity candidate, at the American Diabetes Association’s Scientific Sessions in Chicago. Real-world data on Wegovy, focusing on blood sugar control and weight reduction across patient subgroups, will also be unveiled. Analysts view CagriSema as a critical successor to the current GLP-1 portfolio, and the data will be scrutinized for signs that the drug can meet expectations.
Goldman Sachs responded to the fast uptake of the Wegovy pill by raising its price target on Novo Nordisk from 263 to 305 Danish kroner, while maintaining a “Neutral” rating. Analyst James Quigley noted that the oral formulation generated 1.3 million prescriptions in its first full quarter on the U.S. market and another 1.1 million in the first six weeks of the second quarter — a pace he described as a clear strengthening of the company’s competitive position in obesity.
Novo Nordisk has also struck a clinical supply agreement with Veru Inc., providing Wegovy at no cost for Veru’s Phase 2b PLATEAU study evaluating a combination of enobosarm and semaglutide. Veru retains sponsorship and global marketing rights, but Novo Nordisk secured a first right of negotiation for potential co-development. In a separate capital move, major shareholder Novo Holdings committed €500 million as a founding investor in the Scaleup Europe Fund, a pan-European growth vehicle targeting technology and healthcare companies in late-stage development with a target size of up to €5 billion.
Novo Nordisk at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The convergence of a newly operationalized production hub, international market expansion, and imminent data readouts has given the stock short-term momentum. Whether that translates into a durable recovery will likely hinge on the clinical data presented in Chicago early next week. For investors, the implication is clear: Novo Nordisk is building out both its manufacturing muscle and its global commercial footprint just as it prepares to demonstrate whether its pipeline can deliver the next chapter of growth.
