Nokia's Indian Operations Undergo Strategic Realignment
30.03.2026 - 05:43:57 | boerse-global.deNokia is implementing a significant reorganization of its business in India, effective April 1. This move includes a change in leadership, with Samar Mittal stepping into the role of Country Business Leader and Vibha Mehra assuming the position of Country Manager. They will succeed Tarun Chhabra, who is departing the company. The leadership transition is part of a broader strategic shift.
A Global Restructuring Effort
The changes in India are not occurring in isolation. They form a component of a wider, company-wide restructuring program Nokia has been pursuing. A primary driver for this initiative is a substantial contraction in the company's profit margin, which has narrowed from 8.9% to 3.2% year-over-year.
Concurrently with the management change, Nokia India is reverting to a horizontal organizational model. The firm stated that the vertical structure introduced in 2023 failed to meet its objectives. This operational overhaul will have workforce implications: Nokia India plans to reduce its headcount by up to 20%. Globally, Nokia currently employs approximately 74,100 people.

Strategic Partnerships and Divergent Analyst Views
Despite facing margin pressures, Nokia continues to pursue strategic growth avenues. A key long-term valuation anchor, according to market observers, is its partnership with Nvidia. This collaboration was strengthened in October 2025 by a capital injection of roughly €858.6 million from Nvidia. Analysts identify several potential growth drivers, including 6G and AI infrastructure development, as well as the integration of Infinera.
Market expert consensus on the stock, however, is mixed. The average price target stands at €6.21. More optimistic projections reach as high as €7.20, while cautious estimates dip to €3.78. The lower forecasts primarily cite persistent margin compression and geopolitical risks as concerns.
Stock Performance and the Road Ahead
Nokia's share price has delivered a solid performance year-to-date, advancing by nearly 24%. Nevertheless, it currently trades about 8% below its 52-week high of €7.50. The upcoming quarterly financial reports will be closely scrutinized to determine whether the realignment in India successfully enhances operational efficiency.
