Two product launches this week are reshaping Germany's office equipment landscape—just as the country's labour ministry forces a digital reckoning on working hours. LiberNovo released the Maxis series of ergonomic chairs on Tuesday, certified for users weighing up to 181 kilograms, while AOC unveiled its E4 monitor line the following day, targeting small and medium-sized enterprises with integrated docking stations and 180-millimetre height adjustability.

The new hardware arrives alongside a draft reform of the Arbeitszeitgesetz (Working Time Act) presented Thursday by the Federal Ministry of Labour. The basic eight-hour workday remains untouched, but electronic time tracking becomes mandatory for all companies. Collective bargaining agreements may still allow flexible weekly hours, provided the annual average does not exceed 48 hours.

Employers’ associations have already warned about the bureaucratic burden the new logging requirement will impose. Supporters argue that precise time documentation is a necessary tool for occupational health protection and compliance.

Meanwhile, ergonomic advice continues to circulate among workplace health experts. Recommended monitor positioning places the upper third of the screen at eye level, with a tilt of 10 to 20 degrees below the horizontal line of sight. A neutral arm posture at a 90-degree angle, feet flat on the floor, and a five-minute movement break every working hour are also standard guidance. For chairs lacking built-in lumbar support, a rolled towel can serve as a temporary substitute.

Specialised monitors are also gaining attention. Tests of the BenQ RD280UG—a 3:2-format display with precise colour reproduction—suggest it reduces eye strain during text-heavy tasks. To prevent repetitive strain injury (RSI) of the mouse arm, experts recommend vertical mice and wrist rests.

On the IT infrastructure side, a passively cooled desktop PC designed for under-desk mounting entered the market in mid-June. Such silent systems aim to lower noise pollution and thereby improve concentration and general well-being.

The combination of legislative change and product innovation signals a broader shift: the design of healthy work environments is moving to the centre of corporate attention, with both regulators and manufacturers responding simultaneously.
