Netflix is making a decisive push beyond its core library of movies and series. A key demonstration of this strategy unfolded over the weekend, as the streaming service successfully executed a global live broadcast of the BTS comeback concert from Seoul. This exclusive mega-event offers a clear signal of how management intends to drive subscriber growth and bolster its burgeoning advertising revenue stream.

The concert marked the return of the South Korean pop phenomenon BTS to the stage after a hiatus of nearly four years. Netflix secured the rights to stream the event live from Seoul's Gwanghwamun Plaza to audiences in more than 190 countries. For the platform, this represented a significant first: it was the inaugural musical live event streamed globally from South Korea. To guarantee premium production quality, Netflix enlisted acclaimed director Hamish Hamilton, known for his work on Super Bowl halftime shows.

Financial Targets Underpin Content Strategy

This aggressive content expansion is directly tied to specific financial objectives. When Netflix reports its first-quarter results on April 16, investors will be closely scrutinizing the performance of its advertising segment. The company reported advertising revenue of $1.5 billion in 2025. For the full 2026 fiscal year, management now forecasts that figure will double to $3 billion, a surge largely attributed to the expansive reach of new live formats like the BTS concert.

Internal projections reflect leadership's confidence. For Q1, Netflix anticipates a 15.3% revenue jump to $12.2 billion, with operating profit expected to hit $3.9 billion. Extrapolating for the entire 2026 year, the company is targeting total revenue of $51 billion and an operating margin of 31.5%.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Netflix?

A Dual-Strategy Approach to Engagement

While pioneering live events, Netflix's traditional on-demand business continues to thrive. The second season of the hit series "One Piece" debuted in mid-March, immediately capturing the top spot on the global charts with 16.8 million views. This content foundation is further strengthened by sports broadcasts, including the opening games of Major League Baseball (MLB). The combined power of proven series hits and exclusive live moments is designed to significantly deepen user engagement and attract new demographics to the platform.
