Nebius has rewritten the playbook for cloud infrastructure financing. Instead of building data centres on spec and hoping customers materialise, the company secures multi-year contracts first — then starts construction. That shift turns a capital-intensive industry into something resembling a pre-sold order book, but it also makes the stock behave less like a steady utility and more like a leveraged option on the entire AI build-out. With a 30-day annualised volatility of 99.24%, every headline about hyperscaler strategy can send the shares swinging by double digits in a single session.

The latest jolt came from Meta Platforms. Reports that the social-media giant might sell excess AI computing capacity directly to third parties briefly wiped billions from Nebius's market value. The fear was obvious: a paying customer today could become a direct competitor tomorrow, eroding the GPU scarcity premium that underpins Nebius's valuation. But the research firm SemiAnalysis pushed back, arguing the market had misread the news. Meta's own AI ambitions, it said, are growing fast enough that the company will continue to rely on external infrastructure partners like Nebius. If that view holds, Nebius would be a beneficiary, not a victim, of Meta's expansion.

A stock caught between two trendlines

The shares closed Friday at €193.00, up 2.02% on the day but still 26.05% below the June 22 record of €261.00. The 52-week low of €38.00, set almost exactly a year ago, makes the longer view far more dramatic: a 407.89% climb from that trough, a 152.29% gain since January, and a 384.92% jump over twelve months. At roughly €48.08 billion in market capitalisation, Nebius is no speculative micro-cap — yet its price action tells a different story.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nebius?

Technically, the stock is hugging the 50-day moving average of €196.93, sitting just 2.00% below that line. Relative to the 200-day average of €117.87, it trades 63.74% higher. The 14-day RSI of 46.6 suggests neutral ground, but with the shares having nearly quadrupled in a year, that calm feels deceptive. The 100-day average at €150.24 would be the last meaningful support before genuine technical deterioration sets in.

Nvidia's backing cuts both ways

What catapulted Nebius from relative obscurity was Nvidia's investment and a string of large capacity deals with prominent hyperscaler clients. The chip giant's involvement did more than supply capital — it provided a credibility seal that helped Nebius attract customers and further funding. That is the modern infrastructure playbook: chipmakers buy in and implicitly guarantee demand.

Yet that endorsement ties Nebius's fortunes even more tightly to decisions made in Silicon Valley boardrooms beyond its control. The same Nvidia relationship that opened doors also raised the stakes. When a single Meta rumour can erase billions in value, the question is not whether the underlying business is sound, but how much of the current valuation rests on the assumption that today's customers will never become tomorrow's rivals.

The coming quarters will deliver a verdict. Nebius has sold capacity years into the future, and the market has priced those promises at nearly €50 billion. Delivering on them — without disruption from a shifting competitive landscape — will determine whether this stock's extraordinary run was the beginning of a durable growth story or just the most volatile part of it.
