In a significant strategic shift, Microsoft is fundamentally restructuring its executive leadership. The departure of long-time executive Rajesh Jha, who has shaped the company for over 35 years, has provided CEO Satya Nadella with a pivotal opportunity to streamline the chain of command directly toward artificial intelligence priorities.

A Quartet Steps Up to Replace a Veteran

Rajesh Jha, who served as Executive Vice President for Experiences & Devices, will retire effective July 1, 2026, subsequently transitioning into an advisory role. Rather than appointing a single direct successor, Nadella has promoted four executives to the role of Executive Vice President. Each will now report directly to the CEO.

The redistribution of responsibilities is as follows:

  • Pavan Davuluri will lead the Windows and Surface divisions.
  • Charles Lamanna takes charge of Business and Industry Copilot, which includes Power Apps.
  • Ryan Roslansky, the CEO of LinkedIn, adds oversight of Office and Microsoft 365 Copilot to his duties.
  • Perry Clarke will head Microsoft 365 Core.
  • Jeff Teper is appointed EVP for Microsoft 365 Collaborative Apps.

This new organizational framework is slated to be fully operational by the start of fiscal year 2027.

Streamlining for Speed in the AI Race

The central aim of this reorganization is to create a shorter, more direct line between product leaders and the chief executive. Microsoft is signaling that its Copilot initiatives and Windows ecosystems have become strategically too complex to be managed under a single leadership umbrella. The restructuring is designed to accelerate decision-making and development velocity for AI agents and process automation.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Microsoft?

Financially, the company remains on solid ground. For the second quarter of fiscal 2026, Microsoft posted revenue of $81.3 billion, with adjusted earnings per share of $4.14. Despite these robust figures, the company's shares have declined approximately 14% since the start of the calendar year, trading notably below their 200-day moving average.

The message to the market is unequivocal: Microsoft is adapting its leadership structure to hasten its pace in the critical fields of AI and automation, positioning itself for the next phase of technological competition.
