While Microsoft's strategic emphasis on artificial intelligence and cloud computing captures headlines, the technology giant's recent actions highlight an equally critical commitment to cybersecurity. This dual focus comes as the company's shares trade below key technical levels, presenting a complex picture for investors.

Unplanned Security Update Addresses Critical Vulnerabilities

In a move underscoring its proactive security stance, Microsoft deployed an out-of-band hotpatch for Windows 11 over a weekend in mid-March. The update, designated KB5084597, was released on March 14th and 15th for Windows 11 Enterprise devices. Its purpose was to remediate three specific Remote Code Execution vulnerabilities, identified with the CVE identifiers CVE-2026-25172, CVE-2026-25173, and CVE-2026-26111. These flaws had been discovered during the routine March Patch Tuesday cycle.

The security gaps could have allowed an authenticated attacker within a domain to manipulate users via the Routing and Remote Access Service. The corrective patch applies to Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2, as well as the Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024 edition.

Separately, Microsoft clarified a separate technical issue affecting some users. Reports of inaccessible C-drives on Samsung PCs following a Windows update were traced back to a fault in the Samsung Galaxy Connect application, not the Windows operating system itself.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Microsoft?

Massive Industry-Wide Investment in AI Infrastructure

Beyond its core software and security operations, Microsoft remains a central player in a colossal industry investment trend. Major U.S. technology firms collectively plan to channel more than $650 billion into artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure by 2026. This capital is earmarked for expanding data centers, developing AI-specific chips, and procuring servers. Although Microsoft has not disclosed its individual contribution, industry analysts consider it one of the largest participants in this spending wave.

Stock Performance Contrasts with Strategic Positioning

Despite its strategic alignment with two of the technology sector's most prominent growth domains—AI and cybersecurity—Microsoft's equity performance tells a different story recently. The share price currently trades approximately 14% below its level at the start of the year. This places it notably under its 200-day moving average, a key technical indicator, which stands at 415 euros. This divergence highlights the nuanced factors investors weigh beyond a company's strategic focus areas.
