Micron Technology is undergoing a profound strategic realignment. The company, historically reliant on the volatile market for memory chips in PCs and smartphones, is now decisively shifting its focus toward the booming field of artificial intelligence infrastructure. This fundamental change in direction carries significant implications for its production roadmap and profit margins.

Securing the AI Pipeline with Advanced Memory

At the heart of this transformation is a response to skyrocketing demand from AI data centers. Micron is now prioritizing the production of High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and other specialized memory solutions essential for training and running complex AI models. Concurrently, it is gradually scaling back lower-margin memory products aimed at the consumer mass market. This strategic focus is already yielding tangible results: the company's entire HBM production capacity for the 2026 fiscal year has been sold out through multi-year agreements, providing exceptional visibility on future volumes and pricing.

Financial Performance Validates the Shift

The success of this operational overhaul is clearly reflected in the latest financial statements. For the first quarter of fiscal 2026, revenue surged 57% year-over-year to $13.64 billion. Adjusted earnings per share experienced an even more dramatic increase, soaring 167% to $4.78. This fundamental strength has fueled an extraordinary rally in the company's share price, which has nearly quadrupled over the past twelve months, gaining 292%, even as the stock trades slightly lower at approximately €358.

Unprecedented Capacity Expansion

To meet its committed delivery volumes, Micron is embarking on a historic capacity expansion. In the United States, the company has outlined investment projects totaling roughly $200 billion, supported by government incentives designed to bolster domestic semiconductor manufacturing. New fabrication plants in Idaho and New York are central to this plan. In parallel, Micron is diversifying its global manufacturing footprint with a $2.7 billion investment to build a new assembly and test facility in India.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Micron?

By securing its order book through 2026 and decisively moving away from the cyclical consumer business, Micron has firmly established itself as a critical infrastructure supplier for the AI sector. The efficient execution of its ambitious construction projects, ensuring promised capacities reach the market on schedule, is now the pivotal factor for its continued stock performance.
