A staggering earnings forecast from Micron Technology has sent Wall Street scrambling to revise its targets, even as a formidable competitor prepares to challenge the memory chipmaker on its home turf. The company now expects third-quarter fiscal 2026 earnings per share between $18.75 and $19.55, obliterating the previous consensus estimate of $10.50. Revenue guidance of up to $34.3 billion also smashed market expectations.

This explosive outlook has triggered a wave of analyst upgrades. Lynx Equity set the most aggressive target, raising its price objective to $825 per share. The firm cites an unprecedented order backlog, with production capacity for high-margin HBM and DDR5 chips reportedly sold out through the end of 2027—a year longer than the market previously assumed. For 2028, Lynx projects 40 percent revenue growth, a stark contrast to the Wall Street consensus that had anticipated stagnation.

Other major banks followed suit. KeyBanc confirmed its $600 target after significantly raising its profit estimates, while UBS Group lifted its target to $535 and maintained a Buy rating. Citigroup’s more conservative target stands at $425.

The bullish sentiment has helped the stock shake off recent concerns over Google’s "TurboQuant" algorithm, a data compression technology that had sparked fears of reduced demand for physical memory chips. Investor focus has swiftly returned to Micron’s operational strength. The shares gained 13.38 percent over the past week, closing Friday at €359.65. Over the last twelve months, the stock has soared more than 475 percent.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Micron?

Underpinning this financial optimism is a key technological milestone. Micron has officially commenced mass production of its HBM4 memory modules, which are designed to be a core component in NVIDIA’s upcoming "Vera Rubin" AI platform. Management is targeting a gross margin of approximately 81 percent for the current quarter on revenue of $33.5 billion.

However, a significant competitive threat is emerging. South Korean rival SK Hynix has confidentially filed for a US stock listing, with plans to introduce American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) in the second half of 2026. This move directly challenges Micron’s unique status as the only pure-play DRAM provider on US exchanges, a scarcity premium that analysts believe could erode. According to Counterpoint Research, SK Hynix already commands 57 percent of the global high-bandwidth memory market, more than double Micron’s share.

Despite the record rally and operational dominance, Micron’s valuation remains historically low. The stock trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of just 5.03 for the next twelve months, far below the industry average of 23.43. This creates a stark contrast between its fundamental metrics—including the raised quarterly dividend of $0.15 per share payable on Wednesday, April 15, 2026—and the looming competitive risks.

Micron at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Institutional investors, who hold over 80 percent of the shares, continue to monitor macroeconomic risks. Recent US inflation data of 3.3 percent and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East pose potential threats to global semiconductor supply chains. The market now watches to see if Micron’s blistering growth can outpace the arrival of a direct rival on Wall Street.
