Marvell Unveils Industry-First PCIe 6.0 Switch for AI Infrastructure

Marvell's Structera S 60260 PCIe 6.0 switch doubles connectivity lanes to 260, streamlining AI server architecture, reducing latency, and boosting data center efficiency.

At the recent OFC conference in Los Angeles, Marvell Technology introduced a pivotal new component designed for artificial intelligence data centers. The company announced the Structera S 60260, which it claims is the world's first PCIe 6.0 switch to feature 260 lanes. This innovation is positioned to fundamentally streamline the interconnect architecture within modern AI servers.

Driving Data Center Efficiency

A primary benefit of the new chip is its enhanced density. By offering 260 lanes, the component provides twice the connectivity of comparable market offerings. This high level of integration eliminates the need to daisy-chain multiple smaller switches—a common practice in today's hyperscale data centers that introduces latency and reduces overall system efficiency. Fewer physical hardware components translate to greater server density and accelerated data transfer speeds between GPU clusters.

Marvell's development of this technology incorporates intellectual property from the recently acquired XConn Technologies. Furthermore, the new switch is pin-compatible with the concurrently announced Structera S CXL 3.0 product line. This compatibility allows engineering teams to utilize a single hardware platform for both critical interconnect standards.

Initial engineering samples are already available to select partners. Marvell has scheduled broader customer shipments to commence in the third calendar quarter of 2026.

Expanding a Strategic Product Line

The launch of the Structera S 60260 complements Marvell's existing Alaska P PCIe 6.0 Retimers, which the firm states are seeing growing industry adoption. When deployed together, these two components can extend the effective reach of PCIe connections up to seven meters within a server rack—a significant specification for the physical layout of large-scale data center infrastructure.

Marvell's presence at OFC also featured demonstrations of additional advanced technologies. These included 3-nanometer die-to-die solutions for on-package connectivity and PCIe 8.0 SerDes capable of 256 gigatransfers per second. These announcements follow the recent expansion of the company's DSP portfolio, which also encompasses the 1.6-terabit COLORZ 1600 module.

This concerted product offensive is underpinned by strong financial performance. In its fiscal year 2026, Marvell's data center segment generated revenue exceeding $6 billion, accounting for 74 percent of total company sales. Within that, the custom silicon business alone grew to $1.5 billion. Reflecting the robust operational momentum of recent months, the company's share price currently trades approximately 13 percent above its 200-day moving average.
