Lufthansa Celebrates a Century of Flight with Historic Route Recreation

Germany's flagship carrier, Lufthansa, has marked a significant milestone in aviation history. The company recently concluded its centennial celebrations by operating two special commemorative flights, precisely one hundred years after it launched its first scheduled passenger services.
A Modern Tribute to Historic Journeys
The celebratory event took place on Easter Monday. From Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), the airline dispatched two of its most advanced long-haul aircraft to retrace the paths of its inaugural 1926 routes. One vessel, a Boeing 787-9, embarked for Zurich under the symbolic flight number LH1926. Simultaneously, an Airbus A350-900, designated LH2026, set course for Cologne/Bonn. Both jets featured a distinctive deep-blue "Super Crane" livery for the occasion.
This operational homage highlights the extraordinary technological evolution within the industry. The original flights on April 6, 1926, utilized aircraft like the Fokker-Grulich F II, departing from Berlin-Tempelhof. A century later, wide-body jets covered the same geography, underscoring decades of progress in range, capacity, and efficiency.

Commemorative Events in the Air and on the Ground
The anniversary flights commenced at approximately 15:00, carrying more than 400 invited guests. The Zurich-bound service followed a unique flight path, passing over historic intermediate stops—including Halle, Erfurt, and Stuttgart—without landing, offering passengers a symbolic aerial tour of the route's legacy.
Parallel to the flights, the airline hosted a major ceremony at the capital's airport. This event welcomed over 600 additional attendees from the business community and the company's own workforce, gathering to honor the carrier's 100-year operational history.
With these festivities, Lufthansa brings its foundational anniversary celebrations to a close. The company now shifts its operational focus back to managing its extensive global network and day-to-day business activities, carrying forward a century of aviation heritage.
