Lanxess Extends CEO's Tenure Amid Financial Restructuring
02.04.2026 - 06:07:47 | boerse-global.deThe specialty chemicals group Lanxess has signaled a commitment to stable leadership by extending the executive board contract of Frederique van Baarle through 2031. This move underscores a focus on continuity as the company navigates the aftermath of a challenging fiscal period.
A Challenging Fiscal Year 2025
Lanxess concluded the 2025 financial year with significant losses. Group revenue declined to €5.67 billion from €6.37 billion the previous year. More critically, the net loss deepened substantially to €577 million, a stark contrast to the €177 million loss reported a year earlier. Management attributed the poor performance primarily to persistently weak demand from the agrochemical and construction sectors, compounded by losses related to recent corporate divestments.
Van Baarle, who holds responsibility for human resources on the executive board, also serves as CEO of the Lanxess Corporation, leading the Americas region from Pittsburgh. Her portfolio includes the strategically important business units of Lubricant Additives, Polymer Additives, and Rhein Chemie, all seen as key to the company's ongoing strategic realignment.

Share Price Recovery and Upcoming Catalysts
Despite the difficult financial results, Lanxess shares have staged a notable recovery from their lows. After hitting an annual low of €11.78 in March, the stock has since advanced approximately 53 percent. However, it continues to trade about ten percent below its 200-day moving average of €20.04.
Investors are looking ahead to two key dates in May 2026 for further clarity on the company's operational direction. On May 7, Lanxess will publish its first-quarter results for the year. This will be followed by the Annual General Meeting on May 21, where management is expected to provide detailed plans for a new efficiency program. This initiative is projected to generate annual cost savings of around €100 million by the end of 2028.
