Intel Forges Strategic Alliance with SoftBank to Power Next-Generation AI Infrastructure
03.02.2026 - 06:13:04 | boerse-global.de
In a significant move to address the soaring computational demands of artificial intelligence, Intel has entered a strategic partnership with SoftBank. The collaboration, focused on developing advanced memory solutions specifically for AI data centers, was formally announced on Tuesday.
The core objective of the alliance is the commercialization of a novel memory architecture known as "Z-Angle Operation Memory Technology" (ZAM). This initiative aims to produce chips that deliver a critical trifecta for large-scale AI operations: high capacity, high bandwidth, and low power consumption. Such a combination is increasingly viewed as essential for running sophisticated AI models, which require both immense processing power and rapid data access.
Intel will leverage its next-generation DRAM bonding initiative to advance this technology. According to the announcement, the first prototypes of the new memory solutions are targeted for completion by early 2028.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Intel?
Building on a Previous Commitment
This joint development effort expands upon a prior agreement established in mid-2025. At that time, SoftBank committed to a substantial investment in Intel, laying the groundwork for this deeper technological collaboration. The current partnership involves Saimemory, a subsidiary of SoftBank, working directly with the semiconductor giant.
A Race to Fuel AI Growth
The timing of this partnership is pivotal. The global semiconductor industry is experiencing a pronounced boom, fueled almost entirely by exploding demand for AI hardware. The rapid expansion of data center infrastructure represents a particularly high-growth segment. As AI applications grow more complex and powerful, the industry faces a pressing need for innovative memory that can process vast datasets more swiftly and efficiently.
By spearheading the development of ZAM technology, Intel is positioning itself at the forefront of creating critical components for future AI infrastructure. Success in this endeavor could help alleviate a potential bottleneck that might otherwise constrain the continued advancement of generative AI and other data-intensive technologies.
