Infineon Technologies has taken a breather after a blistering run, but the pullback is casting the spotlight on a structural shift that could define its next chapter. The stock shed 7.5% over the past seven days, closing Friday at €74.51 after briefly touching a high of €89.67. Yet the broader narrative is moving beyond the classic semiconductor cycle: the company is increasingly being valued as a key supplier to the energy infrastructure powering artificial intelligence.

The numbers behind that story are starting to land. In the second fiscal quarter, Infineon posted revenue of €3.812 billion and a segment result of €653 million, translating to a margin of 17.1%. Management subsequently raised its full-year outlook, calling for revenue to rise "clearly" rather than "moderately." The most compelling figure, however, is the trajectory of power-supply sales for AI data centers: they topped €700 million in fiscal 2025 and are forecast to reach roughly €1.5 billion in fiscal 2026.

Analysts see room for upside. Jefferies, as reported by Cinco Días, believes both Infineon's own estimates and market expectations are conservative, leaving scope for positive surprises given the already elevated valuation. Goldman Sachs, after speaking with management, came away convinced the production base is well aligned with rising AI demand. Bank of America has gone a step further, arguing that Infineon's silicon carbide products for data centers will command a market share of around 37% by 2027–2028, compared with STMicroelectronics' 15%.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

The technical backdrop, however, is sending mixed signals. The year-to-date gain still stands at 94.52%, and the 12-month increase is a staggering 104.70%. But the speed of the advance has stretched the stock far from its moving averages: the close of €74.51 is 28.4% above the 50-day line at €58.03 and 74.66% above the 200-day average of €42.66. The relative strength index has cooled to 55.1, no longer in overbought territory, yet the annualized 30-day volatility of 73.12% underlines how jittery trading has become.

Some of that volatility stems from sector headwinds. Broadcom's disappointing earnings report recently soured sentiment, while stronger-than-expected US jobs data revived worries about interest rates. For Infineon, the wide gap between its current price and its trend lines means there is ample room for a deeper correction if the macro mood sours further.

On the fundamental front, the company is laying concrete groundwork for the future. The EU Chips Act 2.0 continues to bolster expectations for Europe's semiconductor industry, with regional clusters such as Silicon Saxony broadly welcoming the initiative. Infineon's own Dresden expansion is moving toward a milestone: the new Smart Power Fab is scheduled to open on July 2, 2026, and the company has already begun ramping up recruitment for maintenance technicians and systems experts.

In the near term, the €74.51 level serves as the first test of support. If it holds, the correction could play out above the 50-day moving average, allowing the stock to digest its gains. A break lower would bring the €58.03 zone into view. The multi-year trend remains intact, but the margin for error has narrowed — and the next quarter's results will need to back up the AI power story with hard revenue and margin data.
