IBM delivered a powerful quarterly report on Thursday, exceeding Wall Street's forecasts and sending its stock sharply higher. The technology giant's results were fueled by double-digit expansion within its software and infrastructure divisions, with a particularly striking highlight being the scale of its artificial intelligence business.

For the fourth quarter of 2025, IBM posted revenue of $19.7 billion, marking a 12 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $4.52, surpassing the estimates of market analysts. The equity market responded immediately, with IBM's stock price advancing 4.82 percent to close at $308.34 on Thursday.

The company's software unit saw revenue climb 14 percent to $9.0 billion. An even stronger performance was recorded in infrastructure, where sales jumped 21 percent to $5.1 billion, a gain supported by sustained corporate demand for IBM's mainframe systems.

Artificial Intelligence Business Reaches Major Milestone

A key takeaway from the report was the confirmed scale of IBM's generative AI operations. Chief Executive Officer Arvind Krishna stated the business has now achieved a booking volume exceeding $12.5 billion. This momentum is increasingly reflected in the software division's results, providing evidence that the firm's strategic pivot toward hybrid cloud and AI is gaining traction.

Management expressed confidence in the outlook for 2026. IBM anticipates revenue growth exceeding 5 percent on a constant currency basis. Furthermore, the company projects free cash flow will increase by approximately $1 billion year-over-year. These forecasts signal the ongoing transformation of the enterprise from its historical hardware focus to a modern software and AI-driven player.
