HydrogenPro's Moment of Truth Arrives as Q1 Earnings Near
11.05.2026 - 04:28:41 | boerse-global.deThe long-awaited payoff for HydrogenPro ASA’s aggressive restructuring may finally be in sight. When the Norwegian electrolyzer manufacturer reports first-quarter 2026 results on May 13, the market will be watching whether a pair of flagship projects — ACES in the US and SALCOS in Germany — can convert years of preparation into tangible revenue. After a painful downsizing that slashed headcount by nearly 40% and squeezed annual costs by 40 million NOK, the company is betting that delivery milestones will finally validate its turnaround story.
Financial scars remain deep
The numbers from 2024 still sting. Revenue collapsed by roughly two-thirds to around 196 million NOK, while the net loss nearly tripled to a similar level. Subsequent quarters offered faint glimmers of stabilization: by the third quarter of 2025, the gross margin had recovered from 22% to 55%, though EBITDA remained in the red at minus 45 million NOK. The fourth quarter of last year brought in just 17 million NOK in revenue against a net loss of 44 million NOK, but cost savings during that period exceeded 50 million NOK — a sign that the belt-tightening was beginning to bite.
Those savings came at a human cost. The workforce was cut by 39% to just 89 employees, a brutal reduction designed to trim 40 million NOK annually. Whether that is enough to push the company closer to operating breakeven is the central question the upcoming report must answer.
Two projects, one critical test
SALCOS in Germany is the immediate focus. All stacks for the 100-MW project were slated for delivery by the end of the first quarter, and a complete delivery in the reporting period would trigger a clear revenue recognition event — exactly the kind of concrete progress investors will be scanning for. Across the Atlantic, the 220-MW ACES project has completed its initial start-up phase for all units and is now working toward parallel operation as the next milestone.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Hydrogenpro?
Beyond these two, a pipeline of four large-scale projects with a combined potential value of around 1 billion NOK sits in the final contract phase. Securing even one of those would provide a powerful signal that the order book is filling up.
Industry headwinds persist, but policy support builds
The broader sector remains a challenging environment for all players. Roughly 90% of hydrogen projects planned for 2023 and 2024 globally have been delayed by at least a year, underscoring the gap between ambition and execution. On the positive side, installed electrolyzer capacity worldwide has surged from 0.5 GW in 2021 to 7.9 GW, and the EU has allocated nearly 1 billion euros to 15 renewable hydrogen production projects. In the US, the extension of tax credits is providing additional long-term demand support.
Competition is also heating up. Rival Nel ASA recently launched a new system that promises significantly lower cost per kilowatt, putting pressure on margins across the industry. HydrogenPro will need to differentiate on reliability and delivery execution to hold its ground.
Hydrogenpro at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Stock feels the squeeze
The market has not been forgiving. Mid-April saw the stock trading at 1.61 NOK, a far cry from its 12-month high of 4.25 NOK. While the broader Norwegian market has rallied roughly 38% year-on-year, HydrogenPro shares have languished. Weekly volatility of around 9% places the stock among the most volatile on the Oslo exchange, exceeding roughly three-quarters of all Norwegian equities.
May 13 will determine whether that volatility reflects genuine uncertainty or the early tremors of a recovery. The combination of a completed SALCOS delivery, progress at ACES, and any new contract signings from the billion-kroner pipeline could be the catalyst that turns the narrative. If not, the restructuring may have to go even deeper.
