HelloFresh Shares Plunge to Record Low Amid Growth Concerns
22.03.2026 - 07:06:23 | boerse-global.deThe market's faith in HelloFresh has eroded dramatically. The company's stock touched a historic low of €3.58 on Friday, following the release of disappointing 2025 results and a pessimistic forecast for the current year. This decline, which at one point exceeded 16% during the trading session, underscores a profound shift in investor sentiment. Having now fallen below the psychologically significant €4 threshold, the meal-kit provider has shed more than 93% of its market capitalization since its peak in 2021.
A Bleak Outlook Drives the Sell-Off
Central to the negative reaction is management's guidance for the 2026 fiscal year. Executives anticipate a further currency-adjusted revenue decline of between three and six percent. This follows a steep drop of almost 12% in the prior year, with sales falling to approximately €6.76 billion. The core meal-kit business has been a particular area of weakness, recently posting double-digit percentage declines.
Operational challenges are compounding the pressure. In the United States, the company's ready-to-eat segment is struggling with weak customer retention. Furthermore, extreme weather conditions early in the year resulted in a one-time financial impact of around €25 million. While an ongoing efficiency program aims to save an additional €140 million in 2026, profitability remains at risk. In a worst-case scenario, the adjusted EBITDA could fall below the previous year's level of €422.8 million.
Analyst Sentiment Turns Overwhelmingly Negative
The uncertainty is reflected in immediate analyst actions. DZ Bank responded to the outlook by downgrading the stock from "Hold" to "Sell," slashing its price target to a mere €3.50. This assessment suggests minimal room for a near-term recovery.
Key Analyst Ratings:
* DZ Bank: Sell (Price Target: €3.50)
* MWB Research: Hold (Price Target: €4.10)

Can a Strategic Refresh Reverse the Trend?
In an effort to stem the fundamental erosion of its business model, HelloFresh is implementing a strategic investment program dubbed "The Refresh." This includes a withdrawal from unprofitable markets such as Italy and Spain. The company is now placing a heightened focus on product quality in a bid to reduce its high customer churn rate.
The success of this strategy will face an early test in May, when HelloFresh reports its first-quarter figures. These results are expected to provide the first concrete evidence on whether customer numbers are stabilizing. For now, investors appear to be voting with their feet, questioning whether the current plan is sufficient to alter the company's downward trajectory.
