Graphite One Ships Anode Samples and Secures Conneaut Site as Alaska Timeline Tightens

Graphite One is advancing on two critical fronts simultaneously: the graphite developer has dispatched anode material samples to six potential customers while shifting its Ohio processing plant to a lakefront location with adequate power infrastructure. The dual moves bring the company closer to establishing a domestic battery supply chain, though a federal permit decision on its Alaska mine remains the ultimate gatekeeper.
The planned Ohio facility was originally slated for Warren in Trumbull County, but insufficient electricity capacity forced a rapid rethink. Management has now secured a site in Conneaut, near the shores of Lake Erie, through a use agreement with a Canadian National Railway subsidiary. The new location offers improved access to a multi-track rail network, strengthening the logistics link between the Graphite Creek deposit in Alaska and the processing hub inside America's "Battery Belt."
On the commercial side, Graphite One has shipped 20-kilogram samples of anode material to six large prospective buyers — three automakers and three battery manufacturers. Negotiations over binding offtake agreements are already underway, though the company has not disclosed the names of the counterparties. All are currently testing the specifications, and a successful outcome would mark the starting gun for a fully integrated US supply chain.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Graphite One?
Phase one of the Ohio plant is designed for an initial annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes, with construction targeted for completion by the fourth quarter of 2027. Longer-term expansion plans remain on the table, and the US Export-Import Bank has signaled support for the entire supply chain with up to $2 billion in financing.
Investors have greeted the operational developments with caution. The stock closed the week at €0.74, while the secondary source reports a slightly lower €0.73. Either way, the shares have shed roughly 37% to 38% since the start of the year, and the gap to the 2024 high of €1.52 remains vast. The stock is currently testing its 50-day moving average, which sits just above the present price level.
A quarterly earnings report due at the end of May is expected to shed light on capital allocation and the financing strategy for phase one. Market observers will be looking for confirmation that the site switch in Ohio does not disrupt permitting timelines along the Alaska-to-Ohio route.
Ultimately, all progress hinges on one federal agency. The US Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing environmental approvals for the Graphite Creek mine in Alaska, with a final decision scheduled for September 2026. The project enjoys priority status at the federal level, but without the green light, the entire supply chain cannot move forward. Graphite One must secure its financing and finalize offtake agreements before that verdict arrives.
