Graphite One Shares Tread Water as Anode Sampling Reaches Potential Customers

Graphite One shares rose 8% in a week with no official catalyst, but the real driver is the shipment of anode samples to six potential clients, including EV and battery manufacturers.

An unexplained 3.5% bounce to €0.77 in Graphite One shares this week had traders scratching their heads for a catalyst — none was forthcoming. By Monday the stock had nudged up to €0.78, leaving it 8.1% higher over the past seven days, but the company itself issued no fresh press release to justify the move. Instead, the real news lies in a development that broke more than a week earlier: the shipment of active anode material samples to six potential industrial clients.

Those samples are now in the hands of three electric-vehicle manufacturers and three battery producers, kicking off a qualification phase that will determine whether Graphite One can convert technical promise into binding offtake agreements. The company is offering material tailored to three distinct applications: stationary energy storage, fast-charging batteries, and high-density cells. That product breadth signals an ambition to serve multiple segments of the energy transition rather than bet on a single niche.

Ohio Logistics Locked in as Conneaut Site Takes Shape

The industrial lynchpin of Graphite One’s strategy is Conneaut, Ohio, where the company secured a site through a usage agreement with the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, a subsidiary of Canadian National Railway. The property offers access to Lake Erie, rail connectivity, and existing electrical infrastructure including a substation — critical for the planned processing plant. The CN Rail pact will streamline the transport of raw material from Alaska and finished anode product to customers.

Phase one of the Conneaut facility is already being mapped out, with a second expansion phase targeting 25,000 tonnes of annual capacity by the third quarter of 2028. The raw feed for the operation is expected to come from the Graphite Creek deposit in Alaska, widely considered the largest known graphite resource in the United States. Graphite One is pursuing a fully integrated domestic supply chain from mine to battery-ready material.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Graphite One?

Losses Widen as Development Spending Rises

The company remains firmly in pre-revenue mode. In the first quarter of 2026, Graphite One posted a net loss of $3.03 million, nearly double the $1.56 million loss in the year-ago period. Profitability is not on the near-term horizon, given the capital required to advance both the Alaska mining permit and the Ohio processing plant.

That financial drag is reflected in the stock’s year-to-date performance: shares have shed roughly 34% since January, and at €0.78 they sit nearly 50% below the 52-week high of €1.52. The relative strength index currently stands around 62, suggesting the stock is neither oversold nor in overbought territory.

Policy Tailwinds and Competitive Pressure

Graphite One is positioning itself in a market that benefits from both industrial growth and geopolitical urgency. The global graphite sector is projected to expand from $8.4 billion in 2023 to roughly $13.2 billion by 2033, according to industry estimates. Yet a heavy reliance on Chinese processing has created supply-chain vulnerabilities that western policymakers are increasingly eager to address. Graphite — a key battery material — has been caught up in Chinese export controls, adding urgency to domestic sourcing efforts.

Graphite One at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The company is not alone in racing to build North American capacity. In Canada, construction recently began on the Matawinie mine, underscoring the competitive landscape. Graphite One’s edge, if it can deliver, lies in its vertically integrated model covering natural and synthetic graphite processing alongside active anode production.

The next milestone is the feedback from those six qualification partners. Positive results would allow Graphite One to underpin its Alaska-Ohio chain with real customer commitments. Failure to clear that technical hurdle would leave the gap between project plan and commercial reality painfully wide.
