Graphite One's Alaska Project Reaches Crucial Public Consultation Milestone

A series of public meetings in Alaska next week will shape the future of Graphite One Inc.'s flagship project, highlighting both its progress and the delicate community relations at play. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has scheduled hearings from April 13 to 15, 2026, in Nome, Teller, and Brevig Mission to gather input for the ongoing environmental review.

A notable condition for two of these meetings underscores local sensitivities. While company management will present a project update for a summer 2026 target at the opening session in Nome, representatives from the indigenous and municipal bodies in Teller and Brevig Mission requested to meet with regulators alone. Graphite One has agreed to this arrangement, respecting the communities' desire for direct dialogue with authorities on issues like subsistence resources, including salmon stocks, moose, and caribou forage.

The feedback collected will directly inform the environmental assessment (EA) being conducted under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The company recently caught a regulatory break. Because the planned mining operation impacts a relatively small area of wetlands, the USACE determined a full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was unnecessary. Instead, a more streamlined EA will suffice for the required permit under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, which would authorize permanent impacts to over 400 acres of aquatic resources.

This streamlined process supports an ambitious timeline. Utilizing the U.S. government's FAST-41 procedure, Graphite One is targeting September 29, 2026, for the completion of all environmental and permitting reviews. A positive decision by that autumn would keep plans for construction start in 2027 and initial production by 2029 firmly on track. A feasibility study from April 2025 previously assigned the project a pre-tax net present value (NPV) of $6.4 billion.

The foundation for the current review is a 331-page Environmental Evaluation Document published in March 2026. Economic participation for the region is a key topic for the hearings. The city of Nome alone anticipates roughly $1.6 million in port fees over the mine's projected 20-year life. Graphite One has signaled its openness to discussing fair economic arrangements with surrounding communities as well.

Financially, the company is positioned for this critical phase. In February 2026, Graphite One closed a public offering with gross proceeds of 35 million Canadian dollars. This capital is intended to fund the permitting work and field programs planned for summer 2026. Warrants associated with the financing have been tradeable on the TSX Venture Exchange since late February.

Investors have responded positively to recent developments. Over the past seven trading days, Graphite One's stock climbed nearly 16 percent to $0.89, bringing it closer to its 50-day moving average. The conclusion of the public meetings on April 15 will provide the next concrete milestone, as the USACE finalizes the community input that will shape the environmental document ahead of the pivotal fall 2026 decision.
