Graphite One Nears Financial Close as Alaska Mine Review Intensifies
09.04.2026 - 13:24:22 | boerse-global.deGraphite One Inc. is advancing on two critical fronts: securing the final piece of a multi-billion dollar funding package and navigating a sensitive public consultation process for its flagship U.S. graphite project. The company is currently in active talks with North America's five largest investment banks to secure the remaining institutional financing required.
The cornerstone of the project's funding is already in place. The U.S. Export-Import Bank has provided non-binding letters of interest totaling $2.07 billion. This substantial federal support is split, with $670 million earmarked for the Graphite Creek mine in Alaska and $1.4 billion allocated for a planned advanced materials processing facility in Warren, Ohio. This EXIM backing is designed to cover approximately 70% of the total capital requirement under the "Make More in America" initiative.
A pivotal moment in the regulatory timeline is now underway. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled a series of public meetings in Alaska for the week beginning April 13, 2026, in the communities of Nome, Teller, and Brevig Mission. These sessions are part of the environmental review for a crucial Clean Water Act Section 404 permit. The permit application involves placing fill material that would permanently impact over 400 acres of aquatic resources.
The community meetings present a unique dynamic. At the explicit request of local tribal and community representatives, Graphite One will only be present at the meeting in Nome on April 13. The company has officially agreed to the communities of Teller and Brevig Mission holding their sessions with federal and state agencies independently. This arrangement highlights the project's complex social license considerations, especially given that a majority of the 323 public comments received during a prior feedback period from September to November 2025 were opposed.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Graphite One?
To support the regulatory review, Graphite One submitted a comprehensive 331-page Environmental Evaluation Document in March 2026, compiling years of baseline data on fish populations, groundwater, surface water, and air quality. The entire federal permitting process is being tracked under the FAST-41 program for critical minerals, with a target completion date of September 29, 2026.
On the financial side, the remaining 30% of project capital is the focus of current negotiations with institutional lenders. The company's position was bolstered earlier in 2026 by a completed public offering of more than 20 million units at C$1.75 each, which included warrants with an exercise price of C$2.25. These warrants have since been listed on the TSX Venture Exchange to enhance trading liquidity.
Formal loan applications to the EXIM Bank are slated for submission later in 2026, pending the conclusion of ongoing technical and community reviews. Recognizing the importance of local engagement, Graphite One recently appointed Lucille Carter as Vice President of Community Relations.
Graphite One at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The project's phased production schedule aims to establish a complete U.S. supply chain for battery-grade graphite. Initial revenue from the Ohio advanced materials plant is targeted for early 2028, with a planned final capacity of 100,000 tonnes of anode material per year. The Alaskan mine is projected to begin production in 2030. Local economic benefits are also anticipated, with the city of Nome potentially receiving an estimated $1.6 million in dockage fees over the mine's projected 20-year life, plus potential sales tax revenue.
