Global Equities Outperformance Fuels Vanguard ETF's Momentum
26.03.2026 - 04:43:19 | boerse-global.deA significant divergence in equity market performance is creating a favorable backdrop for the Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF USD Accumulation. International stocks are outperforming their U.S. counterparts by a margin not seen in over three decades, providing direct tailwinds for the globally-focused fund. The semi-annual index rebalancing that took effect on March 23, 2026, included both routine adjustments and several notable exceptions.
Macroeconomic Drivers and Record Fund Flows
The primary catalyst for the ETF's momentum stems from the broader macroeconomic landscape. According to data from Seymour Asset Management, international equities have surpassed U.S. stocks by approximately 15 percentage points since November 2024. This outperformance is being driven by a weaker U.S. dollar, more attractive valuations compared to U.S. megacap stocks, and increased defense spending across Europe. So far in 2026, a striking 85% of all non-U.S. countries within the MSCI ACWI index are ahead of the U.S. market, boasting an average lead of ten percent.
Capital flows vividly reflect this trend. By the end of February, international equity ETFs had attracted $105 billion in inflows, nearly double the $55 billion gathered by U.S. equity ETFs. The prior year, 2025, was a record period for international ETFs, which saw $220 billion in inflows—a 126% increase compared to the previous year.
The fund itself held total assets under management of $56.81 billion as of the end of January 2026. It posted a net return of 24.62% for the year through February, with an ongoing charge of 0.19%. While the share price currently trades just below its 50-day moving average, it has advanced roughly 30% since its low in April 2025.
Index Rebalancing: Notable Freezes and Changes
The most conspicuous feature of the recent rebalancing was FTSE Russell's decision to suspend adjustments for Indonesian equities. This pause, rooted in concerns regarding transparency of ownership structures and price discovery, means Indonesia's index weighting will remain frozen until at least the next announced review date on May 22, 2026.
Separately, FactSet Research Systems was removed from the FTSE All-World Index, a change that necessitates corresponding portfolio adjustments by passive funds tracking the benchmark.
Concurrent with the quarterly review of UK indices, IG Group Holdings and Lion Finance Group were added to the FTSE 100. Conversely, EasyJet and Hikma Pharmaceuticals were relegated to the FTSE 250. All these adjustments took effect at the market open on March 23, 2026.
Major Market Classification Shifts Ahead
Two significant structural changes are confirmed for the latter part of the year, highlighting evolving economic narratives. In a move acknowledging its economic recovery following the debt crisis, Greece is being promoted from an emerging market back to developed-market status after roughly a decade.
Meanwhile, Vietnam is ascending from frontier-market classification to secondary emerging market status. This upgrade will place the country in new benchmark indices and substantially broaden its potential investor base. An interim report on Vietnam's market classification is scheduled for April 7, 2026.
