German Office Furniture Tests Push Ergonomics and Sustainability Into the Spotlight

The latest round of testing and certification in Germany’s office furniture industry signals a decisive shift: high-end ergonomics and verifiable sustainability are no longer optional extras but baseline expectations. A wave of new products and quality marks is reshaping how companies equip workplaces—from premium chairs to smart monitors and conference-room audio.
Certification bodies are tightening their standards. In early June 2026, manufacturer Hali received the FEMB “Level 3” certification, the highest tier of the European sustainability benchmark for office and contract furniture. The company’s Heylo office chair also earned the GS mark for tested safety. The Deutsche Gütegemeinschaft Möbel (DGM) continues to promote its RAL quality label “Goldenes M,” which, managing director Jochen Winning explains, proves stability, safety and durability. He stresses that seat depth, height and padding are critical for preventing health damage when buying seating.
Two recently tested chairs illustrate the premium-versus-budget divide. The ofinto “Cloud” scored a rating of 1.4 (very good). It features a Donati synchronous mechanism and a suspended foam seat surface, and is certified to BIFMA and Greenguard Gold standards. Its recommended retail price is 449 euros, backed by a ten-year warranty. The Sihoo Doro S100, by contrast, earned a 2.1 (good) rating. Priced from around 260 euros, it offers solid ergonomics and comfort for users weighing up to 150 kilograms. However, testers noted the lack of an adjustable lumbar support and the absence of a separate headrest, making it a capable all-rounder for standard requirements rather than a specialist model.
Technology for hybrid work is also evolving rapidly. EIZO has expanded its portfolio with the 27-inch 4K monitor FlexScan EV2740X, which doubles as a central desk hub: it integrates a USB-C docking station delivering 94 watts of power and a built-in KVM switch. For conference rooms, Shure has introduced the MXA925 ceiling microphone array. The system uses AI-powered signal processing (IntelliMix DSP) to suppress echoes and ambient noise, and its certifications for Microsoft Teams and Zoom highlight the growing demand for seamless IT integration.
Several manufacturers are leveraging events and niche offerings. COR has announced its participation in “3daysofdesign” in Copenhagen from 10 to 12 June 2026, showcasing classics alongside newer models like Siwa and Kagu. The company has maintained carbon-neutral operations since 2020. AutoFull became an official partner for IEM Cologne 2026, equipping the event with chairs that include shiatsu massage, seat cooling and heating functions. DXRACER, meanwhile, is marking the tenth anniversary of the video game “Dead by Daylight” with an exclusive special edition, to be unveiled mid-June 2026 in Montreal—though it will not be available through general retail channels.
Rounding out the trend, eco-friendly flooring is gaining ground in commercial settings. The PURLINE Design 32 from Wineo, certified with the Blue Angel label, is approved for commercial-use classes and reflects the industry’s growing emphasis on sustainable materials from the floor up.
