Geely expands its top-selling EX2 electric car to Australia in 2026, backed by strong investor confidence and a strategic promotional push for its EX5 model.

The Chinese automotive group Geely is extending the international reach of its top-selling electric vehicle. Following a successful domestic run, the company's EX2 model is poised for an Australian debut, signaling the next phase in its overseas electrification strategy. The compact hatchback will be unveiled at the Melbourne Motor Show on April 10, with market entry scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.

Strategic Expansion into a Growing Segment

Geely's move strategically targets Australia's burgeoning market for compact, affordable electric vehicles. This segment is rapidly evolving from a niche offering to a core market, particularly for fleet customers. The EX2, which led China's EV sales charts for over seven consecutive months in 2025, is positioned to capture this growth.

To build market presence ahead of the EX2 launch, Geely is implementing an aggressive promotional campaign for its larger EX5 model. Prospective buyers are being offered a low-interest financing rate of 1.88 percent and complimentary home charging stations until April 30. This tactic intensifies competitive pressures in a region where Chinese automotive brands are becoming increasingly dominant.

Investor Confidence Reflects in Share Performance

Market sentiment toward Geely's expansion strategy appears strongly positive. The company's shares surged more than seven percent in a single session last Friday, closing at 2.58 euros. This rally established a new 52-week peak and contributed to an impressive 30-day gain of approximately 53 percent, underscoring investor optimism regarding the firm's global ambitions.

However, technical analysis suggests the equity's rapid ascent may warrant caution. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) currently registers at 82.6, a level typically indicating an overbought condition. While the fundamental outlook is bolstered by the new market entry, the stock's short-term momentum may be due for a consolidation phase following its recent performance.
