The appetite of hyperscale data centres for uninterrupted electricity is reshaping the global power landscape, and few companies are better placed to capitalise than Siemens Energy. At the heart of this shift is a surge in demand for highly efficient gas turbines – GE Vernova’s turbine factory is already booked solid through 2029, with some orders stretching to 2031. Siemens Energy’s own order books are swelling in tandem, underscored by a blockbuster long-term contract in Oman that covers not only the supply of new gas turbines for two large power plants but also decades of maintenance work.

Service agreements of this kind are prized by investors for the predictable revenue streams they generate, smoothing out the volatility that plagues pure construction plays. The Munich-based group has simultaneously raised its long-term outlook for global gas turbine demand, framing natural gas as a bridge technology that underpins the expansion of renewables. “The combination of gas-fired capacity and modern grid infrastructure is driving our growth,” chief executive Christian Bruch said, pointing also to a recent major grid contract from 50Hertz to connect new offshore wind farms in the North Sea.

That twin-track strategy – gas turbines and grid automation – is becoming increasingly lucrative as more software is embedded into power systems. A new market report forecasts that grid automation will expand at almost 8% annually until 2035, with the software share of those systems climbing to around 40% by then. That shift promises fatter margins for Siemens Energy’s Grid Technologies division, even though semiconductor lead times remain stubbornly long at up to 40 weeks.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Energy?

The market has rewarded this momentum. The stock closed at €167.88 on Friday, having rallied roughly 37% since the start of the year and an impressive 77% over the past twelve months. The shares are currently trading almost exactly on their 50-day moving average, some 14% below the April high. The relative strength index sits at 54, signalling a neutral phase of consolidation.

Yet alongside the bright fundamentals, there are real-world bottlenecks. In the US alone, 48 data centre projects were derailed last year by local opposition or insufficient grid capacity. In Europe, tightening efficiency regulations are raising the bar for operators. For Siemens Energy, however, tougher rules could actually bolster demand for its high-efficiency technology, turning regulatory hurdles into a competitive edge.

Investor attention is now fixed on 5 August 2026, when Siemens Energy will publish its quarterly results. The company is currently in its quiet period, but the recent string of order wins – from the Oman mega-deal to the 50Hertz grid project – has fortified the groundwork for what should be a robust set of numbers. The next catalyst may well come from the intersection of AI’s insatiable power thirst and the infrastructure that Siemens Energy is uniquely positioned to supply.
