A wave of orders stretching from university cleanrooms to high-volume chip fabs has underscored the breadth of demand for Aixtron's deposition equipment, even as the stock has given back more than a third of its value over the past month. The Herzogenrath-based company booked new system purchases from ROHM Semiconductor, the Pennsylvania State University, the MIT Lincoln Laboratory, and optical specialist Lumentum between May and June, spanning gallium-nitride power semiconductors, advanced photonics for AI networks, and next-generation materials research.

The buying spree is not limited to one region or application. ROHM is deploying Aixtron's G10-GaN platform to expand production of gallium-nitride power devices, while Lumentum ordered multiple G10-AsP MOCVD systems to boost capacity for high-speed optical components used in AI data centers. On the research side, MIT Lincoln Laboratory selected two 300-mm Hyperion systems for work on gallium nitride and two-dimensional materials, and Penn State chose an Aixtron R&D tool as the centerpiece of its new semiconductor lab. The diversity of end markets — power electronics, optoelectronics, fundamental research — helps insulate the order book against sector-specific slowdowns.

Yet the operational momentum has done little to prop up the share price, which closed Friday at €39.43, down 34.11% over the prior 30 days. Analysts attribute the retreat partly to a sector-wide sell-off in semiconductor and AI names that overwhelmed positive company-specific news. The decline has clipped the stock 37.09% below its June peak of €62.68, though it remains well above its 200-day moving average, suggesting the longer-term uptrend is intact on a technical basis. Year-to-date, the shares still carry a gain of 124.27%.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Aixtron?

Aixtron's first-quarter results, released in preliminary form after the period ended, showed order intake surging 30% year-on-year to €171.4 million, while revenue fell to €59.4 million from €112.5 million. The company swung to a loss per share of €0.19 versus a profit of €0.04 a year earlier, a dip management attributed to revenue timing and upfront investment. In late April, Aixtron raised its full-year revenue guidance to a range of €530 million to €590 million, up from a previous target of €520 million ±30 million, and narrowed its expected EBIT margin to between 17% and 20%. The company also placed a €450 million convertible bond in April to bolster strategic flexibility, and shareholders approved a €0.15 dividend for 2025 at the May annual meeting.

Analyst opinions remain bullish even as the stock retreats. Jefferies raised its price target to €73 on June 23, while Warburg Research lifted its target to €56 but kept a "Hold" rating. More recently, JPMorgan's Craig McDowell reaffirmed an "Overweight" stance and a €70 target on July 13, citing expected strong quarterly results and growing exposure to Asian optoelectronics clients. With the half-year report due July 30, market consensus forecasts earnings per share of €0.11 on revenue of roughly €124 million — a number that will test whether the recent price action was a mere breather after a blistering rally or the start of a more meaningful reassessment.
