Eutelsat Secures Long-Term Funding Strategy with Major Bond Placement

Eutelsat completes its €5B refinancing program with a new €1.5 billion bond. Funds will reduce debt and accelerate the OneWeb LEO satellite constellation expansion.

The French satellite operator Eutelsat has finalized a comprehensive refinancing program, marking a significant milestone in its capital restructuring. The company concluded this phase with the successful issuance of a €1.5 billion bond. Proceeds are earmarked for debt reduction and for expanding the OneWeb low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation.

A Strategic Financial Overhaul

This bond issuance represents the final component of a broader €5 billion financing strategy. The offering was structured in two tranches: one for €850 million with a five-year maturity, and another for €650 million with a seven-year term. The influx of capital will be used to repay existing debts and to retire older, more costly liabilities scheduled for 2027 and 2029 ahead of schedule.

This move follows a dual-tranche capital increase of €1.5 billion executed by the group at the end of 2025. Eutelsat further bolstered its position by securing syndicated loans and export credit guarantees to support fleet expansion. Collectively, these actions reduce structural covenants in credit agreements and substantially streamline the company's financial architecture.

Capital Allocation Focused on Growth

The enhanced financial flexibility is being strategically directed toward accelerating the build-out of the OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network. Eutelsat has allocated approximately €4 billion for investments spanning 2026 through 2029. This capital will fund the procurement of hundreds of new satellites, aimed at scaling up global broadband coverage from LEO.

The successful access to the debt market was facilitated by prior credit rating upgrades from agencies Moody's and Fitch, which followed the earlier capital measures. Chief Financial Officer Sébastien Rouge described the completion of the refinancing as a pivotal turning point in the company's transformation. With its funding base now secured, Eutelsat is reinforcing its multi-orbit strategy and simultaneously preparing for the future European IRIS² communications constellation.
